Su-27 Flanker B - Renovate into "Blue 38" - Finished!

My new (but not so new ) project consists on renovate my Flanker built in 2007:

For this build, I did some correction and improvements:

- Windshield:

- Some detailling under the canopy:

- And Eduard PE set for the seat.

Some over points deserve to be treated, like the nose, air intakes,pylons and missiles:

The camo Pattern given by LindenHill is not the "standard" one. I like it a lot, but i can't find any pictures showing it...

Ok, so what do we have here....

- Aires exhausts

- Pitot tube

-Zacto Nose

- LindenHill decal 32001

- And spare trumpeter stencils

I started with dismounting the beast:

Then I washed the clear parts with alcohol and poished them with tamiya compound.

And then, masking:

I peeled of the decal with adhesive tape:

I also was helped by a new blade and sandpaper

result:

Then, I sprayed tamiya primer direct from the can:

Recessed lines are still pretty visible :)/>

OMG that seems to be an exhausting job ! Must be faster to start from a brand new kit...

In my opinion, your 2007 version of the model was already looking very pretty ! But we must say that if you make this over-weathered and fadded lady, the paint job will be very interesting.

Ditto! I really like what you did with "Blue 9", and from the looks of things so far I think "Blue 38" will be a real knockout! I'll be watching this space for more progress reports.

Wow, brave move! I too really like the model in its first incarnation, but having rebuilt an LSP model myself, I can certainly understand your motivation. Looking forward to following your progress!

Hello,

Some update with the correction of the intakes shape

Trumpy gives us a rounded shape where it should be flat.

The correction set from Zactomodels shows it:

I started by trimming and inserted plastic card:

Then I applied polyester resin:

After one day, I sanded down:

Result:

Some holes are filled with more fluid epoxy resin:

And again and again... sanding:

Some scribing:

Final result:

OK, I didn't correct the width... but it's still better than before, right??

While waiting for my Zacto nose to be delivered, i will continue with the Aires nozzles.

Hello!

So, after the intakes, let's go for the nose!

I received my Zacto parcel... My turn to be impressed by the VERY high quality of his products.

The surface is ultra smooth and recessed lines are very very fine.

The ealier version of the Trumpy Flanker B had a shorten nose.

Chris (Zactoman) came with his replacement part:

Alongside with Trumpy nose:

2 resin pitots are given:

But I preferred to add master Model metal one:

First I had to open the fuselage:

Zacto nose is a bit smaller in diameter, and you have to remove some material on the two fuselage halves in order to tighten the resin nose:

I had to face some damages, and some adjustments were done:

Finally I manage to glue it with cyano:

Despite the previous work, I got i little step, and had to use filler:

Nozzles

I first sprayed "Chaos Black" from Citadel:

Then i sprayed Humbrol metalcote 27003 on the two external cans.

After drying, the coat need to be polished with a cloth or paper tissue in order to get the metal shine.

Black (insides) and metalcote (outside) were used as a base for the paintwork.

I used humbrols with a little brush and drybrush technique on the insides.

For the external surfaces, I used tamiya powder sets and oil paints.

Et voilà!

Big works are done.

Some touch up and masking.. then paintwork!!
