ericg
Mods,I hope this one belongs here. I know, I know, I have way too much started at the moment but this one was too cool to not start straight away. I am sure I passed this kit 5 or 6 times today at our swap meet without seeing it but when I did, well.... I just had to have it. I didn't even know it existed! Anyway, got it for a great price and the guy was more than willing to barter for it. I reckon it will look cool in my display cabinet and it shouldn't be too hard to knock up fairly quickly. Here is the contents and box all resin and wood: I cleaned up all the parts and cut the casting blocks away. not that much work required really. I reckon that the detail and quality of the resin is superb. There are some scratches and nicks on the grip but I am unsure whether these would be from the casting of the original item or from bashing around in the box. Needless to say, the control columns that are the tool of my trade are alot more worse for wear than this thing. Parts detail: Just one genuine problem with the kit and that is that some of the serial numbers will need to be fixed as there are some parts broken from them, that is if they are even supposed to be there. Here is where the main casting block used to sit on the grip before it left the Verlinden factory Some dry fitting The wood base and sticker, which will be getting ditched for something a little more expensive looking. LSP_Kevin
Wow Eric, you're unstoppable! Looks a great project, and shouldn't take you too long. It's probably a 50/50 thing as to whether it belongs here or in Non-LSP Works, so we'll just leave it here. What else did you get at the swap meet? ericg
Nice one Dan! This is a Verlinden product and I think it is reasonably old. Not having seen it before I cant give any other details. There were no instruction with it either, although it is pretty straight forward. Anyone with pics of the real thing feel free to help out with some detail shots please. I am assuming this is for an F-16A. Was thinking that I was going to do it as a clean build but not sure. Like the idea of representing one that has come straight from the Aeroplane. dodgem37
Way cool is right. I wonder if they molded a real one for this project? Sincerely, Mark
Guest Peterpools
Wow What a find ... Now that's the perfect scale. Keep 'em coming
ericg
I have primed all of the parts in a few different colours to make final painting easier. The stick and most of the other parts have been primed with a thinned mix of Gunze resin primer, and the attachment screw base has been primed with alclad Black base. The trigger and a couple of the buttons have been primed with Tamiya fine surface primer as they will end up being painted red, and one will stay white. ericg
Here is some of the painting started. I used ALclad black base, and as this is a 1:1 scale model, I haven't worried about post shading etc. The only weathering that I will do is some very light grime and shadowing with a wash to give it a more 3D look. The alclad was rubbed back with 2000 grit sandpaper 10 minutes after application to knock back the gloss sheen. What results is a nice satin look and feel which is quite realistic. There are engraved letters on the top of the stick which I applied a wash of neat Gunze flat white. I rubbed off the overflow with a moistened cotton bud: Alclad Stainless steel followed by a promodeller black wash (which is still very wet and hasn't been refined as of yet) Some of the red buttons, which was painted with a 50:50 mix of Gunze Red and Yellow/Orange, which incidently looks very close to the gear lever unlock button on the Dash-8 Some of the other parts painted with Alclad black base, which I will leave as is and wont rub back. I am hoping that the difference in sheen between these parts and the grip itself will lend to a more realistic finish Whitey
LSP_Kevin
Terrific work Eric. The colour and surface finish on the grip look absolutely authentic to me. I can imagine this sticking out of an F-16 arcade game. Kev
ericg
Whilst working on my Mirage stick grip I thought it would be nice to finish off this kit so that it had something to keep it company and in the display cabinet. I wasnt exactly earning its keep in the condition it was in, what with it being painted but with its components still unnassembled. I think the thing that stopped me from assembling it alot earlier was that I messed up the paint and it had started to exhibit fine cracks, spoiling the look of the stick grip. I resprayed it with Tamiya semi gloss black from the spray can and am alot happier with it. Just need to weather it slightly to give it a slightly used look and give it a bit of depth. I will also need to redo the white lettering on the top of the stick and also I want to come up with a decal to replicate the white lettering that is all over the buttons that the kit missed. next to its home grown brother Edited July 23, 2013 by ericg Whitey

viperfixer
Looking real good, very realistic! Was the trim switch white on older block sticks? I know on recent jets it's grey.
