Erwin
I've added the last beachobstacles.Big (2,50 m in 1/1 scale) tree trunks. Note that I added sand on top of the PAK and Tobruk bunker (still wet). This means that the scenery is done. From now on It's a matter of adding some smaller details. Erwin
On the matter of putting sand on top of the PAK and Tobruk bunker. It's more a matter of camouflage.Sand did ofcourse blow on and off during storms. And some stayed on after time held in place by the grass. I do plan to add some long grass on the roof too. I added the sand because it looks nicer. As I stated earlier I live close to the Atlantikwall. I know of at least one bunker that was visable about 5 years ago.Now that bunker is totaly out of sight and covered with sand. That's because dunes drift. Erwin
Hello Erwin, Have you done any more on this. Funny you ask. I didn't like the long straight trench and the rectangle in the center after all. I'm changing it yet again. Don't realy know what I will do now.But their's a big convention next week in Belgium. I might find something to fill the space.Or just fill it with sand. Edited February 28, 2013 by Erwin
Shawn M
fill it with sand and show the troops digging it out?
Erwin
Erwin, I suppose you thought it looked a tad congested. That is exactly what I felt. It's a bit to much in a small space. Another thing that changed my mind was an episode from Mythbusters. They looked at the way shockwaves behave in trenches. And the best trench was the style with sharp corners. If a grenade would have exploded in my long trench, the shockwave would still kill those at the end far away from the blast. Erwin
Okay, like that idea Erwin. So less is MORE I guess. I am thinking that sharp corners does not have that smooth curve and curvature surface area to wave ride the trenches more easily, is that it? Solid square cornered trench literally blocks it? I think you will make good the changes .. The Mythbusters tested it and a straight trench increases the wave as it goes along. A smooth curved trench was less ,and the one with sharp cornes(like mine)came out best. They actually block the shock wave the best and so the damage in the trench is far less. Erwin
I decided to just fill it with sand. I could have added some sort of weapon, but that would have been to crowded. Their might be a slight color differance.I will camouflage that by adding more grass. Edited March 2, 2013 by Erwin
Hogzilla
Thank you. As info. I made the trenches from bricks as they were during the war at Ostend (where I live) I used "new bricks" for my dio as it depicts the Atlantikwall when newly build. I certainly did not realize they had bricked trenches...
Erwin
Hi, Work on the diorama has stalled a bit. Just a few minor details to be added. Will get round to it soon and post pictures of the finished build. Edited April 28, 2013 by Erwin
