Many thanks Cees & Grant :)

Woohoo the draft masks came on email from Ian at Ad Astra masks so a little check was in order to make sure all is well. I don't know how they do it but they are perfect - all I supplied was a photo of the aircraft and the scale I wanted and Ian did the rest. Quite how he does this without one of every kit to measure up against I will never know but the results are spot on.

Nice to see what the bird is going to look like...

NICE!

I really like it. Ian is fantastic and the material he uses for his masks, as well as supplying a "cover sheet" mask for lifting, is fantastic and very forgiving.

Looking forward to more progress here.

I REALLY need to try one his masks soon - I've not seen one negative comment whatsoever which, to me, shows extraordinary production quality and attention to detail.

just a little update...

I made up the Throttle and prop control unit - should have painted the inside before I closed it up as the slots are really narrow and I don't want the white construction to show through...

Not such a good pic because it is freakin tiny..

..and what it looks like dry fitted in place...

also got the resin casting stuff and buried in here are the cylinder head parts and exhast pipe masters. couple of schoolboy errors - no mould release agent on one of them and forgot to add locating pegs to the two part mould for the exhaust pipe - still you live and learn

I have to wait until 2pm before 24hrs is up so will see what I end up with - otherwise I will just do it all again (properly...)

until the next fun packed instalment...

Hi Peter, glad to see your resin casting worked out....good job :goodjob:

Your detail work is exemplary. This is a pleasure to watch.

Cheers.

Hey thanks all - geedubelyer I have seen your F14 - you are THE man for detail so high praise indeed :yahoo:

Have been playing around today with my new toy - casting parts for the Fury's Centaurus engine. One failure and a few successes later I am learning all the time. For the price of a good kit it seems you can get all you need to turn out common shapes when kitbashing where I used to burn my life away making duplicates of the same part so it has to be a winner!

I figure get the engine & cockpit done, sort the fuselage exhaust panels, chop the tail down to the much lower profile the prototype had and then I can close her up .. (sigh, that won't be a month of sundays then..)

anyways I hope you like how it's coming along...

Great work as always Peter! Glad to see the resin casting has worked out so well for you. You're going down the same track that I had set for myself, only I didn't have as much luck as you. Whenever I try all this cool stuff, it never goes as well as it's supposed to, or as easily as it seems to for others!

Thanks Kev :)

I am definately not doing anything special - I think the only real key is measuring ingredients

just went to the chemist and asked for a load of 5ml syringes and medicine pots (ooooer) and use those to make sure the rubber mix is 20/1 and the resin 50/50

can't say buying syringes and Lego has done what little street cred I had any good, but hey, I get an engine out of it...

Hi Peter – Amazing piece of work. A huge big thanks for doing all my research and far more for me!!!!! She will be stunning when she is finished

So how are you going to do the canopy – I did a test fit on mine last night!!! There is nothing on it!!! Not even lines - oh apart from the big mould line down the middle. Oh well just another challenge.

Keep up the trail blazing mate  Lovely piece you are creating here - looking forward to the next update

Happy Days - Taff :D

Hey Taff - kind words indeed many thanks

I have had a quick look at the canopy and yup, its a dog..

Will probably fill it with putty/resin, modify it and put it on a stick to use it as a master to plunge mould a new one. Funnily enough my eldest daughter got some thingummy for doing her nails today and the packaging is clear styrene/plastic whatever but is totally optically clear so have nicked it for the stash - thats what I love about scratching, solutions come from the most unlikely places.. I prefer to mould canopies smooth and add the framing from strips of riveted brass sheet - so we will see how it goes

My biggest problem is that I am a couple of thousand miles from the kit on vacation in the sun with the airscale family so it will be another week before I can get my hands dirty again (still it gives more time for the moulds I left to cool off  ...)

Thanks for dropping in

Peter
