Hasegawa Fw 190D-9 "Blue 12" WNr. 500570

Thunderbolt

Recommended Posts

Looking back over this kit, I noticed the tail bends to port by about 15 degrees. It looks terrible!

It's impossible to see in the previously posted photos, but such a defect would doom this model in a contest.

The port side of the fuselage warped when I was dremeling the inner sidewall to accommodate the eagle parts cockpit. The warping widened the front of the fuselage by about 2 mm at an oblique angle, screwing with the wing fuselage join and orienting the whole fuselage/tail about 15 degrees to port.

I may kitbash another 190D and completely rebuild the fuselage. This would require complete removal of the fuselage, engine, etc. Nightmarish task, but I reckon if I'm going to finish this project started in 2008, I might as well do it correctly...

I don't think this is 500570 but another Mimetall Dora.  I believe this aircraft is documented in the Crandall Dora books.  I can verify later today.

You’re right. It isn’t 500570. Doesn’t seem to be < o + - either:

thanks John - wish i had those books!

You're welcome!  They are both great references!  And I couldn't recommend one over the other since they take different approaches to the subject.

With Japo saying mimetall Doras had a  wing base coat of 81 and EE stating 75 was used, amongst many other things?
