HUNTER T7!

Hi Phil,

What smooth lines the Hunter has, and how you have blended the conversion set is just brilliant. Also nice clean up on the front leg, do you have to do it to the back legs?

Regards

Richard

Thanks for the kind words Mes Amis!

Andy I'll have a lookout for that pitot tube.

Taff I'm going to use the kit main gear legs as they are pretty sturdy and I can't be bothered with another battle with the SAC legs!

My daughter was on half term holiday last week so I didn't get a lot done as I had to undertake my single-parenting duties!!!!

I have done the seats though.

I thought I'd show what I started with, what I did and what I finished up with.

Its pretty pic heavy and made need a few posts so if not interested in how then please go straight to the end

Right,

The Fisher seats are incredibly finely molded.

Sometimes a victim of their own success as they were too thin in certain areas.

I used the MB drawing in the Fisher instructions and also the walk around pics Kindly provided by Meindert in a previous post.

Here's the seats:

You can see the shoulder strap on the left seat is missing in some places and has holes.

PA173892.jpg

There were drilled holes in the headstock which on the real thing are screwheads.

Also the straight connecting rods look more like rope.

The Wedge pad (head restraint pad)was also to small compared to the real thing:

The real thing:

The seat release handles were a bit gummed up:

PA173894.jpg

Sides of the seatpans were also thin with some holes:

PA173895.jpg

And there was a bit of mismolding on the rear at the top of the parachute mechanism on one seat:

Back in a mo with some fixes.

I removed the holy shoulder straps on both seats and replaced them with paper,

fixed in place then a drop of thin ca which soaked in and made them just like plastic. (Thanks Tomek!!!!)

I also added a new wedgepad from card and filler.

I drilled in some rod as mounting points for the elephants ears.

PA244044.jpg

Filled the holes in the headstock and made a new circular feature on the sidepiece from two pieces of punched out card;

PA244051.jpg

Replaced the molded "rods" on the seat sides with brass rod and filled the seatpan holes with thick ca.

PA244049.jpg

Made a new seat release handle from card.

PA244054.jpg

I decided the elephants ears were the wrong shape.

Here's the real deal again:

ssb002.jpg

Plain to see its a straight red bar with the ropes going through a small tube on the front.

Here's the conversion parts:

Its just not right.

So I made a jig:

Used brass tube and wire and made my own version:

Back shortly with the finished articles.

I know most of the Hunter seats in models seem to have the blue shoulder straps but I'm

going with my picture I've posted before. I have seen pictures of real seats with blue straps but I decided to

follow the colour guide on the Martin Baker plans in the instructions.

The only blue is on the leg retaining straps on that guide.

I made the seat bang handle out of brass wire.

All the handles were painted yellow then a 0.05 waterbased marker pen was used for the stripes which are actually spirals NOT stripes.

These were left to dry out then darkened with a wash as the yellow portion always seems to be pretty dull in real life.

The leg restraining straps were made from paper and painted blue.

the green oxygen hoses come with the fisher conversion.

Added some placards from an old Eduard F4 seat set. I added the comms connectors to the shoulder of the seat

made from lead wire and brass rod.

Couple more pics;

Thats all folks!

Thank you ALL for the kind words!

Tis mucho appreciated.

I've had the bloody builders round here for a few weeks so I was busy supervising them (making gallons of bloody tea!)

BUT!

Using the terrific set of masks from Ian at Ad Astra I can now present the airoplane in glorious colour!!!!!

She is fresh out of the masks and I used a lot of paint especially the blue to get a good cover.

This needs to rest and harden off for a few days before the final bit of painting which will be the serials on the fuse sides and

the big white serials under the wings.

The odd shape white area on the nose is for the RAE crest which will be a 2 part decal from Ian.

She will then get a good sanding to tighten up all the demarcations then a coat of MM gloss, decals then lots more MM gloss.

The final and last bit to be painted will be the black anti-dazzle area in front of the scren which will be a satiny/matt black.
