Converting an F-4E to an F-4EJ

Hi guys,

Since I've never completed an aircraft in Japanese markings to date, I want to try to complete the Tamiya F-4E Early Production to an F-4EJ.

The question is what do I need to do to achieve this? The Japanese have some great schemes, and I want to take serious advantage of this :D

Now....if this is 'doable', I need to JASDF markings too!

The plane in the pic is an F-4EJ Kai, which is an upgraded EJ, Wolfpack did a conversion for it http://www.wolfpack-d.com/ Models for Sale had one in stock before Crimbo, they do have it here, but it is very expensive http://www.hobbykit-import.com/product_info.php/manufacturers_id/87/products_id/12331?osCsid=746894d646b5508f2bce645e123c36e7

The Tamiya E kit and the EJ are the same, I think, apart from the decals.

If you do go through with it, you could upload this http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10082525a3/20/1 enlarge to the correct size and have some masks made.

Cheers Andy,

The scheme is only a flight of fancy. What I'm more interested in is actually doing the conversion to EJ. There are some great Japanese schemes without that complicated one! :D

I'm not too bothered about the 'Kai' variant.

There's also this book http://www.ipmsusa2.org/reviews/Books/Aircraft/model_art/model-art_jasdf-f4.htm

Oh, and if you wanted to buy the Defenders book, it's oop, they have it on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Defenders-Nippon-F-4-Phantom-II-/390178050298?pt=Non_Fiction&hash=item5ad86c90fa#ht_500wt_922

Kagemusha,

I have the Model Art but was unaware of the other publication, just grabbed one of the two listed.

Thanks, Barry

You do get dazzled by all the schemes, just a pity you can't cross reference with the F-4EJ website anymore - it no longer exists, but had a vast array of photographs of, curiously, F-4EJ's.

Wolfpack Design did have a JASDF RF-4E conversion listed as a future release, sadly it's no longer the case.

  • 1 month later...

My Avionix pit and Rhino intakes are now here. I need to send the Rhino extra wheels out to an LSP member, but I feel I'm closer to actually starting this beast. This week, the Aires cans should be here too. I can't wait to start this project! :wicked:
