gustave venelt
Hello guys, I'm about to start a big scratch building project. I've got 3 view plans that have no scale, 'been planning to correct that by enlarging the plans to 1/32nd using photoshop but...well, I know how big the darn plane is but from where to where must I measure? Must one include the pitot probe? Or from the nose to the end of fuselage? Or to the end of the drift plane? Any info welcome! Thanks.
Hubert Boillot
Hi Gustave, Like you I have found that the information about the length of an aircraft is always a bit vague...The solution is to use a simpler to understand, and less prone to interpretation, measure, like the wingspan. This is what I use when trying to figure the scale of a drawing. You can also use clear dimensions, like the diameter of a prop. But, being one of the largets dimensions, wingspan is also the less likely to introduce scaling discrepancies. Also, even if you want to use the length, never use the profiles, always the plan view to measure things out more reliably ... Hubert.
