Any Hungarian decals for Mig-23

I'd like to do a Hungarian Mig-23. Number 11 to be specific (using the Trumpeter kit). I really like the color scheme which has seven different colors. I've looked everywhere I can think to find something. Is there anyone that makes Hungarian triangular chevrons suitable in size for the Mig-23? I'd rather not have to try to hand make masks.

TOFF has a set for the MiG-29 however the insignia look a bit too big for the MiG-23 wings. (I am measuring sheet 321117). Available at Linden Hill: http://www.lindenhillimports.com/toff.htm

The insignia measure 1" in length where it looks like they would need to be about .8" for the wings. These might be OK for the tail though.

TOFF has a variety of other Hungarian decals available. Perhaps one of the other sheets might have the right size? You might try contacting them or Guy at Linden Hill and see if they'll measure them for you.

 

About the decals. They aren't the greatest quality. The registration on the insignia looks pretty good on the left side of the sheet but is off on the right side. This means the thin white border varies from one insignia to the next.

The other decals in the sheet vary in quality. The tiny black stencils are crisp and clean where the large black bort numbers are pixelated with very rough edges. The squadron insignia and ejection triangles are also a bit rough.

My sheet also has a few small scratches through the ink including one through one of the Hungarian insignias.

 

The green and red on the decals are factory fresh and bright where #11 is battered and faded. I'd suggest masking and painting if you intend to weather the rest of the scheme as it appears in the photos on Hunavia.

 

 

On another note, have you seen the missile pylons I've been tooling for the MiG-23?

Aphids launch rails are finished and ready to be released (shown here on MiG-21 pylon). Aphids are already available.

Dual Aphid launchers are also on my list.

I'll also be doing intake and splitter plate corrections at some point.

Thanks Chris, I'll check out the Toff sets, but it sounds like I may have to make masks. There are also some pics on the Hunavia site of a factory fresh paint job #11 (see the Panorama link on the Mig-23 page). That's the one I'd like to do. There are also pics of the aircraft with and without unit badges, so I guess I can get away with leaving those off.

 

Or, I may settle for a Polish version, haven't made up my mind and the build is quite a ways off in the future, so, who knows, maybe someone will make a decal set (please).

 

I have seen your post on ARC re: the pylons and missiles and they are on my list ;-)

I think I found a (future) source. HAD (HungAeroDecals) state that they are working on 1/32 Mig-23 decals that are based (if I understood them correctly) on their current 1/48 set that includes the aircraft I want to build.

 

They also currently have 1/32 Hungarian Mig-21 sets if anyone is interested.
