LSP Kit Database needs your help!

Next question! In light of the announced decal release from AOA Decals, I've been looking at the Dragon 1/35 Hughes OH-6A Cayuse kits in our database, and not being familiar with these kits, or the subject itself, I can't really work out what's what with the set. Firstly, here are the two kits in the database that match:

http://www.largescaleplanes.com/kitdb/list.php?act=search&plane=OH-6&scale=35

Notice that the Dragon release is shown to belong to the 'Dragon MD-500' kit family. I don't even know what an MD-500 is, so if someone could connect the dots for me, that would be great. It has 4 members in the family, but the Italeri kit is not one of them. I'm presuming that the Italeri kit is a re-boxing of the Dragon one, and therefore should be part of that family.

If someone could provide some clarity and insights here, that would be great!

Kevin, the MD-500 is just a civilian version of the OH-6A.

Thanks, Bill. Does that suggest that the Kit Family should really be called Dragon OH-6A? Kit families are normally named for the first release of the kit, so if Dragon brought it out first, and as an MD-500, then we chose the correct name based on that premise. Otherwise, it seems like the more obscure alternative. Sorry, I know nothing about choppers!

That is correct.

No, that would be backwards. The correct root designation of "MD 500" covers all of the civilian versions, the dozen or so OH-6 observation variants, as well as the armed, light attack MD 500s and AH-6 variants.

As additional information, Dragon also produces these 1/35 kits - all based on the same tooling as their OH-6A:

MD 500E L.A Sheriff,  kit no. 6504

MD 500 Defender,  kit no. 3525

MD 530G Gunship,  kit no. 3526

AH-6J "Little Bird Night Stalkers",  kit no. 3527

There may be more kits in this family, too.

There seems to be a great deal of conflicting information about the release date of AH-6J "Little Bird Night Stalkers",  kit no. 3527:

http://www.largescaleplanes.com/kitdb/details.php?kit=856

Scalemates has it as 2009. The Dragon website says November 2011. A JPEG image of the last page of the instructions on model-making.eu has a copyright date of 1997. I'm seeing 2010 commonly cited, too.

I've set our entry at 2009, as it seems plausible, but I have no idea really! And to add to the confusion, we also have an 'announced' entry dated 2015:

http://www.largescaleplanes.com/kitdb/details.php?kit=2339

I can find no evidence of this one at all, so without further corroboration, I might just remove it.

Can anybody help clarify?

Hi Kev,

I'm sure the initial release of the kit appeared more than ten years ago, without any doubt. End of nineties corresponds to what is buried in my memory. Btw Hyperscale has a built kit with a 2002 year date. So...

Thanks, Thierry. I realise that the initial release is much older, but I can't pin down a definitive release date for the specific "Little Bird Night Stalkers" release,  kit no. 3527:

As I noted in my previous post, the information on the web is all over the place!

OK, here's one for our WWI aficionados: did the Hi-Tech 1/32 Albatros D.V kit ever actually get released? It's in our database as released, but the only talk of it I can find on the web is 2 years' worth of when's it coming out? This seems to have died off some time after 2007, and by 2010, the Wingnut Wings kit was out. I suspect it never happened, and I can find no evidence that it did. But I can't find a definitive statement about it being cancelled, either.

Anyone know for sure? I'll remove it from the database if we can confirm it never came out.

Here's another one not found in the database...

Is that your kit, Erwin? Can you tell me a bit about it? I can't quite make out the kit number on the box. Any chance of a larger photo?

But I 've never seen the Swedish one .
