Steve C
How does the sliding portion of the Spitfire canopy seal against the aft non sliding portion? I can't seem to find any pictures that show this view very well. I'm particularly interested in the Mk IX. Thanks, Steve
Edgar Brooks
It didn't, at least, not at first; apparently there could be one heck of a draught. From 24-6-43, mod 884 "To introduce a cabin draught excluder at rear of sliding hood" was brought onto the production line, for the V, VIII, IX, XI & XIII. I don't think that I have a drawing, but I'll check; my favourite guess would be horsehair (as was used on the Lancaster turrets,) or basil (i.e.sheep) leather.
