fastzx
Russ, I saw this some time ago..... check out this site for resin Apollo pilots You would have to change helmets though. http://mek.kosmo.cz/newware/ review of astronauts. http://ninfinger.org/models/newware/apolloastronauts.html interesting SR-71 factoid site.... http://www.wvi.com/~sr71webmaster/srqt~1.htm Russ, man, great project.....AGAIN! P.S. How about a adding a ram-jet, D-21 drone??? That's only about the size of a "regular size" 1/32 aircraft. Guess it would be an M-21, not SR-71 and a black/NMF paint scheme...just a thought. http://www.sr-71.org/blackbird/m-21.php All the best, Jon mpk

Derek B
As you say Russ, it's looking pretty interesting now. For scratch building purposes, accurate drawings and sections are vital to get the basic shape correct, however, the 'character' of the aircraft is only assumed one the subtle lines of the skin and panels can be realised. For this, I find the best and most important photographs are those taken from the front and rear of the aircraft, but slightly off centre (in all directions) - this revals the true shape and curvature of the aircraft fuselage and wings. I find that once the 'geometric shape' of the aircraft is defind by drawings, the actual shape has to be 'sculpted' with feel in order to obtain a true likeness of the original (there are more subtle variations than you could possibly imagine looking at some aircraft - and drawings do not adequately reveal these). This is going to be one impressive model once completed - rock on Russ! Derek mpk
henry brown
To boldly go eh ? Nice project - I like the idea of the Gatorboard (known as Foamcore here) I'm going to try that. What are you going to fill it all in with ? How will you do the skin ? Best, Henry mpk
Azgaron
Very nice start on your build Russ! Expected nothing less of course! Cheers, Håkan mpk

ruzlkampf
Greetings All, from the 'Russ Skunkworks! Day-3, and the dirge continues its moanfull shuffling pace. Woke up this afternoon with Guttorns words clanking around in the vacuum of my empty noggin, "Don't try,...just DO IT!". Oh great, now I have even MORE voices in my head?! Now I'm getting wavelengths from Norway. Lovely. Mad!, MAD!,....did you sat MAAAAD Dave?! More like STOOPID! A pox on 'voices in the head' saying build an SR-71. We were already Gollum-like enough before starting this, weren't we Russ my Precious?! Meh, coulda been worse....I coulda been told to make an ark out in the middle of the desert cuz it was gonna rain for 40 days/nights and gather 2 of every kind to put on it. Geeesh, I hate spiders.....they woulda got left behind. But I digress; I decided to toss the deerections, and start working on the engine nacelles, (wait a minute...I ain't GOT no directions. hmmmmm) because I needed the profiles and off-sets to be able to build up all the formers all the way across the back of this 'big swoop'. Was going to put this off,.....but I'm "DOING IT" today! Whoohoo! Here we go! Engine nacelle profiles taped onto my 'Foamcore' (yep, it's called that here too Henry!) ready to cut. Took me awhile, and a lot of ditherings and musings to get the cut for the wing angle correct. The intake spike had to be just below the fuse chines, and the rump of the burner can has to be, well in the approximate location of where I put it. The 'voices' said it would be OK.(Alright, I basically sorta guessed....but I like the drama)
