stevegallacci Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Conversion for the proposed production two-seater with stretched fuselage. The conversion will accomodate Trumpeter wings and fore and aft fuselage sections to the extended mind-section with it's repositioned wing roots. The basic '262B2 would have been otherwise similar to the 'B1a/U1, with the nose antenna, though further developements would include a radome nose, HeS011 engines, and, eventually, more dramatically swept wings and even a three-seat version.

That's great. The stretched version of the Sturmvogel. Wasn't this the version with the Schräge Musik in the back?? The ultimate nightfighter...
stevegallacci Posted July 17, 2009 Author Posted July 17, 2009 Actually, the SM guns would have been mounted amidships, an Mk108 on each side of the fuselage just aft the forward cockpit. I'll also be doing HeS011 engines for this and the regular '262 (presumably making that a '262A1c) and a fat nose for the dish radar version. The one version I won't do is the buried engines in the wing, which strikes me as a particularly ugly design (and suspect would not work as well as hoped). The pattern and some of the eventual builds are using the old Hasegawa kits, reworked a bit for accuracy and to make them more compatable with the Trumpeter kits. I'm doing one as a Mistel weapon + He162 and will also do a schnellbomber (cockpit forward) version
stevegallacci Posted July 19, 2009 Author Posted July 19, 2009 This is turning into Me262 madness. The line up starts with the modified Has. 262B2 pattern, a stock Trumpeter 262A1a and B1a/U1 nightfighter, then a modified Has. B1a/U1, backdated to a B1a two-seat trainer, and in back, a modified Has. A-1a converted to a Mistle, which will be mated with a He162 (which will have corrected engine features from my BMW 003 efforts for an aborted Craftworks He162 kit). I am also considering a real sow's ear addition to the line up, a Revell B1a/U1 converted to a proper B1a/U1. With the exception of the Trump. A1a, all this work has been in the last week.
LSP_Kevin Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I am also considering a real sow's ear addition to the line up, a Revell B1a/U1 converted to a proper B1a/U1. I'd love to see you do that one Steve, as I have 2 of these kits in the stash, and plan to build at least one of them. I need you to show me the way! Kev
stevegallacci Posted July 19, 2009 Author Posted July 19, 2009 The outline of the Revell kit is approximately correct, but the fuselage is too narrow in section and the engine nacels are just nasty looking. If you have a Trumpeter '262 kit as well, it can be used to measure how far the fuselage needs to be spread and the extra clear nacels can be used to replace the Revell kit's nasty lumps.
ruzlkampf Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Wheeeew, nice line-up Steve! Man, I wish I'd hacked my 262 nightfighter over in the 10yr. Anniversary GB into a later version now. ALMOST went there after mocking up a new nose with one of those dish radars. This is going to be too coo, I can't wait to see what paint-schemes you choose for all these! Later, Russ
stevegallacci Posted July 20, 2009 Author Posted July 20, 2009 As mentioned over on hyperscale, I've changed my mind as to building the Revell B-1a/U1 as a B-1a/U1 and instead I'm converting it into the Me262V1 with the Jumo 210 motor in the nose and two early BMW jets. Here is the wing in progress.
Spads57 Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Steve, WOW that's some ME.262 line up you've got there! Beautiful work my friend, looking forward to seeing completed flight line. All you you need now is the tail dragging piston powered prototype. Hint ,Hint. Regards, Gregory Jouette
stevegallacci Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 The tail dragging prop driven machine IS the '262V1. I'll be doing it in it's first abortive jet flight, powered by prototype BMW jets and the Jumo prop engine in the nose. I started the "schnellbomber" yesterday, and have it mostly done by today. Still need to turn a new nose end and scratch-build the canopy form for vac-ing, but it has been a fairly quick build/conversion so far.
stevegallacci Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 More progress. I'm focusing on the Schnellbomber for now.
JRutman Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Awesome display of luftwaffe firepower. I especially look forward to the swept wing version getting done. JR
JamesHatch Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 That's amazing.....looks like a 262 factory! Wish I had that patience. You sitting another 262 above that pilotless one? I'm sure Cammett was doing a conversion as such.
stevegallacci Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 My Mistel version will have a He162 as a control aircraft. Ironically, the two-seat bomber version of the Me262 makes more sense as a weapon controller version than as a conventional bomber, so it might have been considered (or a perfect subject for whiffery) as a command guided air-to-air or air-to-ground weapon carrier/controller beyond the Mistel.
stevegallacci Posted July 26, 2009 Author Posted July 26, 2009 Another snap of the Schnellbomber in progress.
