The next two sheets for the SE5a are now finished and should be available early /mid June. To make sure of your copies email pre-order to:

pheon.models@hotmail.co.uk

No money to be taken until they are ready to send, of course.

The first sheet is a limited volume sheet for D3459 of 61 Sqn, engaged on anti-Gotha night fighting duties at the start of 1918. This has required a lot of research and thought and the input of some very knowledgeable people. The Diamonds were once thought to have been Nivo, this has since been discounted and I believe that this is the most logical interpretation of the photographic evidence:

This should make a spectacular model. Decal sheet 32003 has been specifically designed to fit the Wingnut Wings kit (it may also fit the Roden version, but this has not been tested):

The individual decal pieces have minimal carrier film, just around the edges of each diamond, with enough to hold each large panel together, although you may wish to cut some of the larger items into smaller pieces along the diamond junctions for ease of application. On a gloss surface there should be no chance of silvering and a truly stunning model will result.

The second sheet, 32004, is more conventional and covers the mounts of a number of aces in France during 1917/18. The subjects are:

B189, Capt JH Tudhope, 40 Sqn

B891, Capt G McElroy, 24 Sqn

D5969, Lt C Lagesse, 29 Sqn

F5910, Capt W Claxton (Canadian), 41 Sqn

C1752, Lt F Taylor (Canadian), 41Sqn

B4863, Capt J McCudden, 56 Sqn

B525, Lt A Rhys Davids, 56 Sqn

B4891, Capt J McCudden 56 Sqn - modified cockpit sides, exhaust and LVG spinner

All the aircraft depicted had the distictive Hispano-Suiza cowling and radiator. Despite the fact that so many SE5a's were powered by this engine, there are far more photographs available of the Viper-powered machine. Some had the four bladed prop, some the two blader and a few had direct drive engines with a lower thrust line which will entail small modifications to the kit's engine, although they all seem to have the raised Lewis mounting. Four had the original undercarriage and four the later, wood shrouded version - both are included in the Wingnut kit. These markings should be equally applicable to the Roden Hispano kit. It is to be hoped that Wingnut eventually release the Viper-engined version.

At present these decals will only be available in 1/32nd scale, but 32004 will eventually be released in 48th and 72nd scales, when funds allow.

Both sheets are full A4 size and with blues and reds matched to existing fabric samples. Prices wil be :

32003 £17.50 (limited production)

32004 £13.50

Anyone wishing to order both sheets at the same time will be able to have the two sheets for £26.00.

In addition, and to echo Wingnut's generosity, pre-orders placed up to the end of May will be sent post-free world-wide!

Rowan,

Beautiful decals my friend. It's always a pleasure to see more aftermarket products offered in 1/32 for the WWI modeler.Any chance of a new set of decals for the Hobbycraft Spad XIII.Personally I'd love to see Lt.Frank Luke's 27th.Aerosquadron Spad in my collection.

regards,

Gregory Jouette
