Looking for Lysander Info

Recommended Posts

I am currently hunting for interior and cockpit images for an upcoming build of a Matchbox 1/32nd Lysander SD. I have culled what is available from Google (not much) and ran across the LSP walkaround during my search. However, only the thumbnails are available...nothing comes up when I try to launch them. Are these images resident somewhere they can be accessed? They look like they would fit the bill perfectly. Of course I wouldn't turn down any other available images if anyone has some they are willing to share. Thanks for reading this, I hope to nail down my research resources ASAP and get to this rather challenging project. Very Best Regards, BB.

Mushroom Model Publications has released an absolutely spectacular and very reasonably priced book on the Lysander by James Kightly. It's available from Squadrom Mail Order, for example.

Thanks for the speedy reply! I have been looking for this book everywhere: Squadron (Out of Stock), GMW, Mushroom (which carries it as sold out), Alibris, Bibliophile, and a few more obscure houses. No joy anywhere. Frankly, I did not realize that the Lizzie was such a popular subject. If anyone is looking to get rid of a copy I would be happy to talk price, I just can't seem to find a sales outlet with one. On a different note, do you know anything about the Four Plus Westland Lysander book (it popped up at GMW)? I see it all over the place (I wonder if that is an indicator?) but know nothing about it. Thanks again for the tip, I'll keep looking until I get lucky. Very Best Regards, BB.

Brian,

I would second Charles's two suggested references on the Lysander. I have both and combined they cover pretty well most of what you would require to build a great scale Lysander. Both books are a bit light on with original period photos of Lysander's from a number of Squadrons that operated them, but in terms of scale plans and walkaround/detail photographs they are very good reference material. The MMP one sold very well, I think better than they expected, so it is now a bit hard to find. If MMP don't have it left in stock themselves, you will be looking hard to find a copy. Only other source I can think of who might have a copy or two left is Platypus Publications here in Australia who is their Australian distributor. Ley who runs the business did have a couple of copies left in stock earlier this year. Ley sometimes posts over on Hyperscale so you may want to try him over there.

If you are looking for walkaround photos Cybdermodeler have some external ones of the Duxford Lysander and there is another site (which I can't remember which at the moment) had a great series of the CWH Lysander from when it was having some restoration work done a few years back, so it had some great internal detail photos. I think it may have been one of the Warbird sites.

Regards,

Brain, The Plus 4 and Mushroom books are both great as is the French build on Master194. I've tried my hand at the old girl and collected a few bits and pieces so drop me a PM with you email and I'll send what I can.

If I'd give you one bit of advise before you start. Think long and hard about just how you are going to get that wing on straight, even and level. It's a killer and I wish I'd thought it through before I spent hours mucking about on doing interior work. My own brave little attempt is at My Lysander post

Hope that's some help and good luck. Please post your progress as you go. I'd love to see it.

Dan

Terrific build Dan! I learned quite a lot from your work (the engine and Vickers were works of art) and hope I do as well. Any advice on that wing join and jockeying the greenhouse :) ? Thanks for the book tips too. I'll send my e-mail off line...Best Regards, BB.

You could try The Aviation Hobby Shop, who deal in new books as much as model kits. I have several cockpit shots, which you might find useful. Send me a PM, with an E-mail address, and I'll see what I can do.

Edgar

Thanks for the bookseller tip, I'll give them a shot. Any cockpit pix you might share would be greatly appreciated...I'll send my e-mail off-line. Thanks again, BB.

Thanks for the great info...everyone has been very supportive of my quest (guess I'm committed to build photos now :) ). I'll check with Platypus Publications, Colin, and see if I get lucky. Hubert - my French is, I fear, nonexistent...but I do "read" pictures so I'll see if I can find your source. Thanks again all, hopefully I can get started in the next few weeks or so. Very Best Regards, BB.
