Hi Guy's

I want to put in a couple of 55 gal drums in my Wildcat diorama & just wanted to see if anyone could put me on the right track on the correct color.

I did a google search this morning but couldn't find it.

I need the color of the drums circa 1942 Guadalcanal.

My guess is OD green but not really sure.

Thanks.

You are correct, OD, but not the USAAF aircraft OD, it'd be the Corps of Engineers Spec 3.1 color (the tank color).

Stencilling is usually white, light gray, or yellow.

I agree with Jeff, although some might be in USN Grey depending on where the drums came from. And I would suggest if you want to place several in a diorama that you paint them in varying tones of the same color as barrels from different manufacturers often varied slightly in color, or even if from the same manufacturer would vary in color due to age, paint batch, etc.

Thanks Jeff, I thought it should have been OD but didn't realize the difference in the tank colors.

I'll have to look through the stash for some white stenciling.

Thanks for the heads up on the USN Grey Ray - D'oh - I really should have thought of that one. It's a Wildcat on Guadalcanal for goodness sakes, I bet all of the original fuel drums were USN Grey.

Thanks again guy's.
