Barry
Morning folks, I have gotten a little further along with the F-8. I have been working on the IFR Probe as it will be very visible in my inflight build. After studing the photos in Squadron's F-8 Walk Around #38 I decided that there would be a lot of additional detailing needed to make this area really stand out. What I wanted to do necessitated a nearly complete rebuild of the kit parts. Starting with he door I sanded the interior details smooth, carved the sealing flange along the upper door edge as well as the hinges. I reskined the interior of the door with .010 and added rivets. I then noted the the aft upper edge on the door is not shape correctly so I reshapped it. I still have to make hinge structure and the door actuator attach point. Here a several photos of what I have accomplished thus far. Barry sandokan and Derek B

Barry
Next I thought I would be able to use the provided lower hinge points for the Probe "trapeze" A Frame and upper support arm but they were just to "basic" and lacked any real resemblance to the actual hinge structure plus the interior floor of the bay itself was not very accurate lacking several structural details as well as the "cup" that the forward end of the IFR probe stows into. I still have a lot of details to add in this area. The Probe itself requires some reworking as well but basically is accurate enough to rework. The A Frame or "trapeze" that supports and controls the probe is not accurate enough for my needs so other than the upper and lower frame pieces I basically scratched it. There are still several details to add. Derek B and sandokan

Barry
Another of A Frame and Upper Arm. You can also see the Stowage "Cup" depression for the froward end on the Probe. This a good over all view of the changes I have made thus far. Yes it does retract and extend. Now if I only had a functional 1/32 actuator. Barry
A couple of additional photos. Does anyone have photos of the Hydraulic Actuator attachment? It appears to be not only to the A Frame at the rod end but also the bracket in which it is mounted appears to move the whole actuator. In the photos I see the actuator does not appear the be long enough to have a piston equal in length to that needed to swing the frame into the stowed position?? A photo of this area with the probed stowed and door open would be of a great help. Happy Modeling Barry Derek B and sandokan

SeanH
Barry It looks great. That extending brass arm on the refuelling probe really looks great. How did you attach the connecting ends to it? Superglue?
