P&W engine color

Hi folks,

 

i need to know, what the color of the rear part of the P&W radial engine was. Instructions say black, or was it silver like the cylinders or grey like the crankcase?

Does anyone know this? Maybe a pic?

The rear of the crankcase is the same color Gray as the front of the crankcase when new.

 

However, this area is cluttered by the engine accessories when installed, and is therefore nearly impossible to keep clean. Given how radials tend to leak oil, I'd say that Flat Black would be a very legitimate color as well.

Hi Chris,

 

The colour is a glossy dark blue-grey when new. A few months ago someone who build a Vector R-2800 in the "in the works" section" stated that it was FS 36081. As a match he used Mr. Color laquer # 301.

I have found that war time radials have a dark (engine gray) crank case and the rest is along the lines of neutral gray or even light ghost gray.
