Hawker Typhoon : FINISHED

Well guys l been trying to sort out the wiring in the cockpit particularly the left side as that will be exposed for all to see. while l been dong that l been working on the engine. As you will see l been driving myself to insanity :) B) trying to fix and detail this thing up. So here goes Detailing a Napier Sabre 101

this is how it looks straight out of the box. though it does seem actuate it looked too molded so l decided to see what l wanted to keep and what l thew away

As you can see l cut everything from the top and the bottom off leaving just the shape of the engine block and the fuel injectors in place. l also cut off the molded in fuel lines but kept the nubs. Time to glue it all together to see what we have

and here is what we have one butchered engine block but the start of what l hope to become something better then what l started out with ( sort of reminds me of what was left of a Christmas turkey)

l start by gluing some thin styrene plastic over the whole of the engine block to even things up and cover the existing holes l made. Also you can see the start of building up the top sides of the engine as the top should be even with the bottom and the top of the injectors should be even with both top and bottom

Here is the turbocharger as it comes with the kit. They had the right idea but again it had the look of being molded in so l decided to take a whirl at building a new one to get the look l needed.

New and old side by side. l glued a piece of 1/2 inch styrene tube and a peice of thick styrene as the back . l also at this time glued some styrene on the top to cover over the hole.

l then proceed to build the intake on the bottom and drill holes in the styrene tubing to accept pieces of solder that will be the pipes that take the compressed air to the cylinders. While that was drying l finished building up the top the the engine. When both where dry l put them together. l found in my parts draws two tops that l think where tops of tool bins of a Tamiya KV-1. l modified them for cover to the engine. l also glued the front of the kit engine on to the front. l was going to make a more prototypical front but once everything that goes on the front gets put on you cant see it anyways so l just used it to mount the propeller to later

here is an end veiw. l found an old tank track wheel in my parts draws so l glued it on the end to give it that finished look. You can see the holes are ready to recieve the piping. So far so good

Now we start adding the plumping. l super glued the solder into the supercharger first then bent it to shape, cut off any excess and super glued it into place. l determined the size of solder l needed by comparing the drawing l have and the kit part which was to the right size. l used a solder with a diameter of 5/32 of an inch
