A moment in time

My Dad was on the Invincible and the Victorious (34 years in the Navy) and hated the Seafire, it was not suited to carrier life at all and the number of accidents and guys killed (pilots and seamen by parts coming off the plane) that he seen with the planes crashing on deck were a regular occurrence and hazard of deck life.

general rule of thumb is a wide stance for carrier aircraft with only a few exception e.g. the wildcat. Both the spitfire and the Me 109 had the same style landing gear and both where very prone to tip overs. But like any pilot would say "Any landing you walk away from is a good landing"

Seems like I remember reading how in one sortie a group of 8 Seafires took out 7 Zekes for no losses, then lost 5 aircraft trying to land back on the carrier!!

And to think the US thought the F4u was no good on carriers!!!
