MikeC Posted Friday at 02:21 PM Posted Friday at 02:21 PM (edited) Thought I'd give this a try, and invested in a bottle of the grey variety: tried it, and it was good. So I bought a bottle each of the white and black varieties and tried the white. What a contrast! It dried covered in what I can only describe as tiny specks of grit. Further testing revealed they are in the paint, not external contamination. So firstly, has anyone tried this primer and had a similar issue? Secondly, given that (a) I shook the bottle as directed for at least as long and vigorously as I did the grey (which worked fine, remember), and (b) the white and black were purchased from a different dealer to the one I bought the grey from, what do we think has happened? I'm guessing that either I just got unlucky and got a bottle containing paint from a defective batch; or the bottle I bought had sat on the dealer's shelf and exceeded its shelf life; or the white needs even more mixing than I gave it; or something else. Any other ideas? TIA. Edited Friday at 02:22 PM by MikeC
Dave Williams Posted Friday at 06:00 PM Posted Friday at 06:00 PM I don’t think I’ve tried their primer, but I’ve had issues with their paints sometimes having a rough texture. It seems sensitive it having the exact right mixture of thinner/flow improver, and I still can’t get it to spray in real tight lines without clogging the nozzle. The only acrylic primer I’ve found worth a darn is Badger Stynlyrez, which I’ve been using for years. It’s super, but a pain to clean out of the airbrush after spraying because it dries so quick and is impervious to most thinners/cleaners. Recently I swapped to Kaleido primers by Gaahleri, and they are the bomb! Absolutely no thinner needed, goes down super smooth, and is pretty rugged. Their cleaner gets my airbrush clean too. MikeC 1
