Recommended UK based kit collection buyers

Hi guys, too many kits and too little time left to build them, I have to face the fact that I have a limited amount of bench time left to me.

So I have been through my 1/32 and 1/48 scale aircraft collection and have identified 87 kits that I will not have time to build as even with the afterburner on I only manage to build 1 to 2 kits per year.

So has anyone in the UK had a good experience with a UK dealer who buys kit collections.

In the past I have sold to Kingkit and Kits for Sale (now defunct) but who else is out there.

I do know that selling on eBay would bring in more money but the idea of packing up and sending off this many kits does not appeal to me at all.

This is what we are talking about, about half of my aircraft stash.

I would say one thing, here..... you need to accept that you are going to lose money on the deal, compared to the prices you paid. I couldn't say by how much of a margin, but it will be substantial. Private individuals never really appreciate what's involved in dealers buying large collections. There's the dealer's time, effort and petrol spent picking the collection up, time spent photographing and writing listings on-line, time and materials to ship the kits, etc, etc. These aspects are substantial.

 

Unfortunately, no dealer is going to give you anything close to the original price - the economics of second-hand dealing simply dictate otherwise. 

 

I'm sorry to sound so negative, but this is the way these things tend to work.

I tried to sell some kits (non-LSP) and was offered £5 per box (total actual worth £300+).  attempting to sell those kits individually now in an effort to get a reasonable offer (I can accept some losses, but that offer was non-acceptable to me, even though the kits are actually taking up valuable space...

 

 

making things even worse is that I offered to drive the kits to the dealer myself on my way to visiting my mother...

Taking a closer look at what you have there, I would say that there are a fair few kits that'd sell for a pretty decent price. I would do a selection of the higher value stuff and put it on eBay or on here for a more realistic price and then maybe accept the 'hit' on the lower value stuff...

 

Just my thoughts... cos you've got some really nice stuff in there.

The ladies at Veteranus will take boxes of kits sent to them and put on their Facebook weekly auction - they will then take payment and send out - and send you monies less their commission.

 

IIRC @wunwinglow of this parish has used them and may be able to comment?

 

Do I see a Hobbycraft 1:32 Allison Mustang in that pile - the RAF version? If so, I have a 'friend' that might be interested...  

 

EDIT: My 'friend' might also be interested in the Fokker D.XXI.

On the subject of on-line selling, there is the option of bundling several kits together. Quicker, easier and reqires fewer boxes.

Collection buyers will offer you small money and make huge profits at conventions.

I did stumble upon Veteranus in my searches and may investigate further, at the moment I have sent away a list to KingKit for a quote, if I do not like it your "friend" might be in luck.

Thanks for that another likely lead, in the past I have sold lots of kits, when we went overseas for 10 years I took a stash with me and left one stash in the UK when we came back in 2004 I merged them and  sold nearly 200 kits to Kingkit.

Then in 2013 I sold of a large chunk of the stash to Kits for sale, so I know that I will not reach the maximum for the kits, but it is better than the kids consigning them to landfill when I pop off.

 

I did take the WNW Se5 Hisso out of the pile after seeing the prices on eBay, mind blowing considering I paid peanuts for it.

You could also try Mark Spicer. He advertises in the IPMS UK magazine. I've dealt with him before and have found him to be very trustworthy.

Thanks Chris another one to add to my list, I no longer buy modelling magazines and forgot all about the IPMS magazine, I actually have a magazine just behind me on a shelf, forgot all about it.
