Do we need a new P-51K?

In order to unburden 62 another topics, let us discuss the need for this type. Wishlisting is permitted and the thread drift expected. However I would like to hear your reasoning . So P-51K, yay or nay?  @John1 Go!

I'm going to show my ignorance here (what's new!) - but don't Tamiya have a 1:32 P-51D/K in their range already?

 

I don't have the 'K' - but the P-51D and F-51D releases are superb - at least I thought they were?

 

Or is that the wrong scale?

No.  As mentioned, the Tamiya D/K is already out there and it’s fine.

Absolutely not! A new P-51K in 1/32 (or indeed in any other scale) is needed about as badly as the proverbial average fish needs a bicycle.....

No interest in any Mustang whatsoever with the exception of those used for PR duties. My ignorance matches Iain’s since I don’t know the type used except that they were the early ones I believe.

That should not be the question, as we will always get more of these as those types sell better than any other!

I only hope that after making massive amounts of cash with these products, at least one will go on to market a Vickers Wellesley, a kit I could not not buy if I saw one, even in 1/48 scale!

Just what I thought, and I have the "Pacific" boxing, which includes a K (or in the RAF, Mustang Mk IVa) among the options (for completeness, the other two are a later-block VLR aircraft and an F-6D FR variant.

P-51D with an Aeroproducts prop instead of the Hamilton Standard, and (from memory) a few other subtle differences.

Yes, all valid points, but wait for the man himself to pitch in with a comprehensive explanation.

Just because the Tamiya kit is "10 years old", does not render it obsolete. A slippery slope arguement if there ever was one. I just bought a GWH P40; it only has 6 years of shelf life left? What about my WNW kits?

I just picked up a Pacific boxing of the P-51.  Mine will be done as Kit Carson’s 51K, “Nooky Booky IV”.

I believe it started out as a joke that is now kinda tired and run its course and yet here we are still reacting to it. The 1/32 Tamiya P-51K is a beautiful kit and is not likely to be bettered by any manufacturer. 

 

I love the Mustang, so if you're talking about the need for a new state of the art 1/24 scale P-51K...I'm on board.

That post made my night! I’ll simply add that there may be some cynical naysayers amongst us but the reality is that many, I dare say very many,  are clamoring for the K, arguably the most esthetically pleasing of all the Mustang variants.  I’ll continue to fight the good fight and post this suggestion whenever a thread on a specific subject suddenly turns into a hated “wish list”, which is nothing short of online modeling anarchy.  To ignore posting this suggestion in one of those threads would be to SQUANDER the freedom of speech that our forefathers fought and DIED for after the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor!  If you take exception to me exercising my inalienable rights, then I will double down even HARDER, for to do otherwise would be UNAMERICAN!   THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER! - J1
