Question for Owners of Hanboost C-1 Ultrasonic Cutter

I just picked up one of these to help cut 3D-printed parts off their supports.  I've read some good testimonials from LSP members regarding these types of cutters.  I got a Hanboost C-1 from Amazon last week.  First thing I did was charge it via USB until the display said 100%.  I didn't realize that once you power it on, the cutter is ready to cut.  There is no additional SAW-on, SAW-off button... once you power it on, it's ready to cut.  I mention this because it is almost impossible to tell if the saw blade is active or not.  No sound.  No visible movement.  Touching the blade against an object will give you tactile feedback but an indicator light would've been helpful.

 

I was able to play around with it some, verifying that yes, it does make quick work of separating 3D parts from their supports.  I wanted to see how the cutter works on styrene but the cutter ran out of juice before I could do that.  It didn't seem like I had used the cutter for very long but maybe I had turned it on and left it on for an extended period time.  I don't know.  So I charged it again until the charge display read 100%.  But when I unplugged it and turned it on, the battery indicator read 1% and soon died altogether.  Charged it again and same thing.  

 

I exchanged the cutter and just started charging the new one.  When it reached 73% charged, I wanted to check it so I unplugged it and powered it on.  The battery indicator read 2%.  Has anyone else had any issue with the Hanboost C-1 not holding a charge?

I also just bought one and received it yesterday.
I was also surprised at the apparent lack of anything happening and wondered what was going on. But, after trialling, found it does indeed work.
I will fully charge up later tonight and report back what happens. Otherwise it does seem to do the job as intended.

As an aside, i watched Flory review it which was amusing - he literally had no idea and was trying use it on plastic sprue like a saw cutting wood

 

anyway, I am sure it does what it is supposed to given Fischkopp recommend it

 

it is also typical Chinese … poor safety / lack of basic user friendly features 

 

but that’s the price you pay for getting a new toy before it’s been ‘rationalised’

When you turn it on, first it does a display test, it shows 188%. It then switches to the battery charge ie. 73% for a second or two. It then switches to the speed. Speed settings are 1, 2, or 3. Mine defaults to speed setting of 2. Occasionally I can hear it. It's a rather high frequency. I believe it automatically shuts off after a time period, not sure how long that is.

Something's definitely wrong with the first two units that I got from Amazon.  Both have the same problem.  After charging to 100%, I unplug the unit and press the power button.  My display starts at 188% then switches to battery charge of 1% and switches to speed 2.  When I plug it back in, the charge percentage goes back to 1% and takes another 2-3 hours to get back to 100%. Then repeat the cycle again.  Both of my units have never shown a battery charge, when unplugged, of higher than 1%.

I have used mine for the best part of a year and had no problems at all. Yes, it is a bit disconcerting initially when nothing appears to be happening, but it “is working” nonetheless. It turns off automatically when not used for a while. You have two duff ones John.

I've had no problem with mine.

It will cut and melt styrene simultaneously, no matter how gentle you are.

I thought about getting the cordless Hanboost cutter, too. But, reading your above comments, I hesitate. I already have an Ultrasonic cutter (no-name, from Amazon):

 

It needs to be always plugged in. There are clear power and off settings, and there is a visible LED light along the blade when you press the button to cut stuff. 

Not as slim as the Hanboost one, I admit. But it works for me. Doesn't help with the Hanboost topic, but I think mentioning it could possibly not hurt.

Checked the way mine operates and agree with the above, you've had some bad luck in getting two dud cutters.

Thanks guys!  Going to return this one too.  There ARE other ultrasonic cutters out there.  Another one that has a lot of reviews on Youtube is the Hozo Neoblade.  Maybe I'll give that one a whirl.

 

Brought my Hanboost to the office to pack up for return.  But just for kicks, I'm going to plug it in to see if a different USB connection works any better.

Maybe I should've tested the re-charging on a different outlet at home but I used the one that works with every other appliance that I have.  Here at work, charge percentage is at 28% and when I unplug it and power it on, it shows a battery charge of 28%.  Looks like it is holding a charge like it is supposed to.  A case of operator error it seems.  Will report back after the Hanboost is fully charged.

I have had mine for a few months and it works fine and really holds a charge, I have not recharged it yet from new.

I have used it on plastic and resin.

All good with my Hanboost C1.  After charging to 100%, the unit diplays 100% charge after it is unplugged and turned on.  Reminder to self that all electrical outlets/USB outlets are not the same.  Not sure why the one I was using at home didn't work.  It was plugged into one of these...
