I've kind of buried this project in the Vendors board,  but I'll think I'll move it here like I did with the Supermarine S.4 and just keep the  vendors thread for announcements and not  cloud it up with the details of bringing a 3D kit to life. I never even knew there was a Vendors board until I started the business side, so it's just better product exposure and believe me, it takes a thousand people looking to make a sale. 

 

So, a nod to Max @mozart who suggested this plane to me, which is amazing it burst to the top as it did, because I had a physical list of 12 other planes I'm pretty psyched about as being "next". I feel it was destiny though as I really have a hankering for different these days and this one hit that mark. No one is going to make this in 1/32  (but then again, never say never)  I also have no illusions this is  the kit if I wanted sales volume. 

 

So, here's some development shots that I had on the other thread. Thanks to the few  to date on here that have pointed out where I could do better. There's only one right way..plenty of ways to go wrong!

Thanks Gentlemen. Max, good to see you on my new Facebook page. Yeah, I'm having fun here. Not hung up so often which allows me to make bolder efforts, confident I can pull it off.  Hubert, don't rush the Curtiss. I have another buyer who contributes to Modeling Madness and thinks he'll post his build by Christmas. He's over the moon finding this having sought a 1/32 R3C-2 for 40 years.

 

In other news, I discovered the Lockheed Electra Junior is famous in other ways we all may know well. It was the plane the Ilsa boards after saying goodbye to Rick in the movie Casablanca. It's downright iconic actually. But, don't be too fooled. The plane is a half scale prop set far in the background in fog and uses midgets to re scale it for the screen. Casablanca was filmed in 1942 and Hollywood CA could not film at airports using real aircraft. The scene is a set.  At any rate, It was not difficult to make Rick and Ilsa figures and they will be part of the kit if someone cares to add them.  What a diorama. (though still torn I did not make the Electra 10 that Earhart was lost in just because an imaginary ditching diorama would be a lot of fun too).

Ok, back to business. 

 

The prop! This is an form of self inflicted pain, but boy it feels so good when it's over! 

 

For the record, This prop is 2.7 meters in reality. 8 foot 10 . That seems big but that's actually tiny compared to a Corsair at 4 meters. Some models have a spinner/cone so I'll do that too. Pretty easy. Could probably do a three blade option. That apparently helped cabin noise considerably.

That worked really well!  I was feeling guilty about the lack of cockpit detail in the seaplanes.

Looking good Jim. Beware that the steering wheels did not have a long shaft, but were affixed close to the yoke. A small detail, anyway.

Mmm. I do have plans to cut the yoke into parts when printing so the builder can get to the IP.  I can slice off the extra shaft length at that point. Thanks for pointing that out.

Seats. This was fun. Trying to decide how much I detail CAD the interior vs giving the builder the task as they so desire. Like, I could make curtains and seat back pockets, but so could the builder and perhaps better. Wrinkle is not easy.

Okay, so I gotta appreciate my editor here again,  even though I wince when I see I got a reply from Hubert. The dash is model correct here now. I had some reservations that the image shared, which had considerable distortion from the zoom out was going to convert, but sometimes you just might try...and you might find....you get what you need!

Sorry to be your Jiminy Cricket, and spoiling your tranquillity, Jim (no, I’m not really sorry 😂🤣😂). Especially as you get the hard designing work, and I have the easy role of playing « inspecteur des travaux finis » .

It's fine. I'm not Airscale with the Do17 and I have plenty of inexperience to prove it, but then again what's the excuse for laziness? 

 

A customer want's a 1/48 Supermarine S.4 that I need to print up tonight. What's wrong with him?? LSP man!
