1/32 Eduard P-51C "Daisy Mae" 332nd FG "Red Tails"

Finally it arrived, this kit I've been waiting for a long time so thanks Eduard for creating this kit, my first look at the kit is very positive, nice plastic surface and rivet details are fantastic, and the resin 3d prints' quality is superb which I was a bit concerned after seen their previous quality sets, so very Happy about it!

 

 

The subject:

P-51C-10-NT, s/n 42-103454, Lt. Albert L. Young, 318th FS, 332th FG, 15th AF, Ramitelli, Italy, January 1945

This P-51C originally flew with the 325th Fighter Group and sported a yellow-and-black checkerboard pattern on its tail. It was nicknamed "Stonewall". After being transferred to the 'Tuskegee Airmen', the 332nd Fighter Group gave it a new paint scheme and it became the personal aircraft of Capt. Crockett. He named it 'Daisy Mae', after the golden-haired character from the popular comic strip. The aircraft was lost on 21 January 1945 near the village of Opatovice, close to Rajhrad in the Czech Republic. The pilot, Lt. Albert L. Young, was killed in the crash, the cause of which remains unknown.

 

 

I was lucky to receive some relics from this plane from my Czech friend Pavel some years ago so that's why I chose this scheme

Very excited to see what you do with this! I will ultimately do a 332nd bird as well; I'm leaning toward Topper. There's nothing screaming at me from the 1st edition, and I have enough on my plate to keep busy until the standard editions come out. This is a plane that I will be doing multiples of, especially if it turns out to be a relatively quick build. I've pulled up a chair, get cracking!  😄

I'm looking forward to seeing your progress on this, I love a Red Tail bird. I'm working on my Tamiya P-51D and I'm planning on doing it as Creamer's Dream, I picked up the very nice marking set from Warbird Decals (although I'm hoping to find a way to paint as much as possible).

Nice that you will do a 322nd too when your moment comes and will follow, the B/C Mustangs look better than the D model to my taste🤩 cheers John

that's very true, Pavel's research and work is outstanding, had the privilege to meet him and visit some crash sites with him, remarcable memories!

Very good, Antonio!  I can't think of anyone better to dive into this new kit and let us know how Eduard did!  Looks like we have a Mustang renaissance going on at LSP.

so, first interactions with the kit is removal of the supports of the 3D resin prints and it is a bit painstaking task but I guess it is what it is with this new hybrid technology 😅

 

 the fit of the cockpit floor and fuselage tank is not as good as expected and takes some trimming

 I was expecting this kit to be released by Tamiya years ago but unfortunately never happened so it was exciting to hear Eduard was going to release one finally,   I contacted Jan from Eduard and sent them some cockpit reference pictures and tips for paint  part calls  that could be improve from their 1/48  fantastic rendition kit and  their team have come up with an amazing job indeed!! there was a serious gap with the B/C Mustang variant  in this scale, the Trumpeter kit is just...  thanks John, hopefully will see you building one soon and turning it into a masterpiece with your magic! cheers
