Robthepom Posted Wednesday at 05:24 AM Posted Wednesday at 05:24 AM I,m getting myself in a right muddle over what is the right colours for the 1/32 kittyhawk F5-F I want to do the Sundowner version, and just want to check with you guys about what right camo colours. the 3 tones called up in the instructions are FS36495 - Light Grey FS36118 - Gunship Grey Aircraft Grey which as no FS number in instructions Are these colours/numbers correct for this aircraft? There seems to be a lot of conflicting information out there. I'm not to bothered about doing all the 'tweek list' modifications although i did read all the 64 pages, but i would like to get the colours right! I dont know much about the aircraft, is this aggressor scheme? or Ghost scheme, its all very confusing Thanks rob
alaninaustria Posted Wednesday at 05:55 AM Posted Wednesday at 05:55 AM What a lovely scheme! I always really liked that one! I can’t help regarding the colors; but, I do like the scheme very much! Cheers Alan
allthumbs Posted Wednesday at 10:47 AM Posted Wednesday at 10:47 AM I’m dubious about the Gunship Gray callout. The Dream Model 1/72 kit instructions look to be more accurate…
Oldbaldguy Posted Wednesday at 12:13 PM Posted Wednesday at 12:13 PM Really pretty paint scheme but there ain't no gunship gray in it. Were it me, I would eyeball the colors and go for it. Remember, these aggressor paint jobs are supposed to look like they belong to another country so why would they use US milspec colors? I think model companies come up with these charts not because they actually know what the colors are but because they think we expect them to. MikeC 1
Red Dog Posted Thursday at 06:12 AM Posted Thursday at 06:12 AM I always thrust my eyes first rather than reference numbers when it comes to aircraft model paint Here's what I see: The middle grey is easy, same as the light grey for the F-16: H308 in Gunze which translates to FS36375 The light grey makes me think about gunze H338 which translates to FS36495. Many would suggest white but I don't agree? The blue makes me think about the S3 viking (VX-30 Bloodhounds) that was painted like SBD dauntless, which seems to correspond to Mr Hobby C367 FS35189 Now all this is from looking at pictures, so nothing with real reference standards. usually that's my starting point and I tend to lighten or darken the chosen colours when I start painting according to the picture I use as reference. blackbetty and CRAZY IVAN5 2
Oldbaldguy Posted Thursday at 12:16 PM Posted Thursday at 12:16 PM If you haven't resolved your color problem by now, you might want to check out some of the Russia-specific colors offered by MRP. Some of those look very like the colors on your subject jet. Might be worth a look.
