KiwiZac Posted July 5 Posted July 5 It's disappointing that, so far, the team hasn't acknowledged that in the late 2000s this same aircraft* did a series of "strafing" displays with six blank-firing guns at two Warbirds Over Wanaka airshows. To me it was much more impressive to hear when done on the ground than in the air - I was underwhelmed by how muted the sound was even at our close-range flying display distance, but it was still cool. It was a pretty big deal. It's also frustrating that a project being promoted as "The Sound of History" has so much music over it! Hopefully the final product lets the aircraft speak more for itself. *P-40N-1 42-104730, which served with the Royal Australian Air Force as A29-448. Restored to airworthiness in New Zealand and flew again in 2000. Normally it wears a representation of its original RAAF markings but is temporarily (thank goodness, for this particular history buff) wearing a different scheme. Christa Posted July 5 Posted July 5 Above Coffee Creek, in the Trinity Alps we heard heavy hammering outdoors. As naive British visitors the whole family went to look-see. Four 'older gentlemen' had parked a Dodge pickup truck in a disused quarry. From the back of the truck they were cutting stone with a mounted . 5 Browning. The Browning was way louder than their laughter. Their laughter lasted longer. That P-40 was firing how many big Brownings? Wow!
