Coming along very nicely Mal...

How do you rate the kit so far?

I have been thinking of doing the 1/32 Fi103R Reichenberg, Germany's equivalent weapon (though not used). Special Hobby do it and it looks like a nice enough kit..

Allright, did i mention the scooped half moon vent hole, well this aint good, no use try salvage that, due that sink mark change the shape of it, and no wont even try, better to put energy creating new one/ones.

Here is the kit part.

Well this is the material ill use, brass sheet.

Few moments later trial and error, my MarkII.

This kit do have some issues, the fit is okay, aiming for them with experiance in shortruns, aswell some scratching, the fit and shape are good, some surface details is not there, and when installing them bulkhead walls, nope, it leaves a huge gap, so requiers trimming them down.

Special Hobby, builded one Brewster and that was crazy fun, and yes way better fit, that kit had issues but not that bad at all. So get that kit, its also very cool one.

Nevertheless its a cool model imo.

And no havent found any finnished Mikromir Ohka on the internet yet.

those small intakes, so will need to scratch that part/parts

img_1257.jpg

Barracuda has six of them in their carburetor intake/exhaust set for the Revell Bf109 G-6 (32155) or Bf109 G-10 (32156). If they are right in size and shape for your Ohka it will save you a lot of time and all of them will be uniform.

Thanks and i really appreciate it.

Had a look at them, but sadly wrong shape, the one i made is the almost the right shape, the back on them half moon vents should be little more straightened, also i do a template so each one will be the same, and as mentioned only need to do three of  them.

This will just fine later, im used to do make parts, MK1, MK2....and sure is therapy for me.

Beautiful work making that vent out of brass sheet Mal!

Ernest

Thanks Ernest.

Yep, know how ill do them, and they are very easy to do, and only need to do 3 of them, the brass sheet, do new upgraded template of plastic card, and then burnish the brass sheet (think its called like that) over so it gets the right shape, using tooth picks, wood dowel own made, one part in modelling is to create some own tools that works for the specific task.

Jihaaa, got some benchtime, and as when got some time for my own, well it goes to modelling the, what i love to do.

Now three vent intakes done, and on  a parade, haha no they wont be in line, one behind the canopy and one on each side in the lower fuselage and they are close enough for me hey.

Next stop tackle other issues on this kit, but later. so stay tuned.

Little done this evening, doesnt look much but took time.

Since ive annealing the brass, wich means its little softer, so those ventilation openings needs to be reinforced a little, simple, solder some soldering tin in them, yep. also two more, after reference photos there are two more ones at the fuselage belly.

img21117.jpg

And cleaned up, need to remove that flux.

img_1265.jpg

And now some fiddling, LoL,

Those pedal wires....dang this is the smallest i can do for the moment in scratch with that kind of detailing em wires for them pedals.

img_1266.jpg

Aaaand now dryfit, yes works for me and will do just fine for me hey.

Please share your "trial and error" method for shaping the part!

Yes ill do.

but dont have on the process itself, but ill explain.

Tools i used, including my thumb.

img_1270.jpg

Material, in this case brass sheet 0.7mm.

img_1269.jpg

And create the template with desired shape of the vent, make it slightly smaller than the kit part, due the brass sheet, or else it will little to big, found out that fast on the first one i did.

img_1268.jpg

Next, cut a small piece of brass sheet, hold it with a tweezer (sacrifial one for dirty jobs), time to annealing it, use the lighter, matter of seconds and its glow heat.

Let it cool, takes seconds.

now take that brass sheet, place it over the template, use the thumb to press it firmly, voila, first shape is done, now take that sharpened wood stick, burnish it gentle, press down the edges/corners so they get sharper, and when done, a sharp scissor, cut it around, after that smoothen them edges and shape it with sanding sponge.

thats about it.

Reinforce the part, as it is now soft, used sondering tin cutted a real small piece soldering tin, place that small tin pellet inside the vent, tiny drop of flux, torch it with the lighter, all flows out nicely, then put in a bath with isopropylalcohol, stiff brush and remove the residue flux, and thats it.

This method worked for me.

used almost the same method when i did the embossed text on them fueldrums i scratched on my Arado build.
