scvrobeson Posted June 16 Posted June 16 About $3.50 Matt BiggTim, Martinnfb, KiwiZac and 2 others 2 3
CRAZY IVAN5 Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Well, that's a good question. I've bought 3 Tamiya Mossies @~ $275 USD each. Don't think I'd get more than 2 -38s . I d pay ~ $300 to $350. ThunderDog, BiggTim and John1 3

What's our choices? An ancient Revell or a not very good Trumpy. That Tamiya has good data is proven by their 48th scale -38s . I've built both and the way they designed the kit pretty much eliminates the alignment problem with the tail booms. Another iconic ww2 fighter being shuffled off to the side. BiggTim 1
thierry laurent Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Such a kit would be exquisite but when was released the last fully new 1/32 kit from Tamiya? Alas, I think replying to that question summarizes the probability to get any new 1/32 Tamiya LSP kit... I rather see a good one coming from H&K, ZM or Kotare in some years. We know that all mainstream topics are revisited and this includes US WW2 fighters. If we politely forget Trumpeter, which good products do we have? The Hellcat should be covered soon by GWH. The early P-51 will be correctly covered soon with the three new P-51 kits (A, B & B ) and we have various good D kits. The early GWH P-40 is very nice and we could get a better choice than the Hasegawa late marks but they are globally OK. The P-47 will be covered by Kotare and the late ones are covered by a correct if not terrific Hasegawa kit. The early Corsairs are covered by Tamiya. Moreover, we have correct kits for most other main air forces fighters except some Soviet types. The fact close to all Luftwaffe topics are correctly covered except the Stuka and early 109s has also an influence with regard to "available" topics. This means that the remaining types are limited and more particularly for US fighters! We still have the early and late P-38, the P-39, the Wildcats and the later Corsairs. So, I have zero doubt new kits of them will appear in the following years. BiggTim and Christa 2
Tony T Posted June 16 Posted June 16 I don't want a P-38 but would welcome a new tool 1:32 Tamiya kit of that perennial favourite, the Grumman Tomcat. And would pay £250 for it. Same if they wanted to wipe the floor with Redpill with a £250 F-4B. Tamiya's 1:48 Kitty and Toom are both stunning kits, just too petite. Having said that, I am buying both the Airfix Spey Toom and DBMK Scimitar this autumn, pulling me back down the cussed 1:48 scale rabbit hole! Until my wife and I undertake the dreaded but inevitable house move from the kingdom of the Dubanni to that of the Iceni, my model making is going to be mostly quarter inch to the foot, buying select 1:32 for use later — so I can wait for the Tamiya lull to pass by. The last void in Tamiya's 1:32 output lasted about a decade, 1981-1991, and we're about five years into a fresh one since the last 'new parts' repop — but looking for patterns at Tamiya is as useful as reading tealeaves. RCPlym Posted June 16 Posted June 16 Zero. Don't want one from Tamiya. They are so 'yesterday' these days with the likes of Airscale, DBMK and Kotare on the scene! 😜🤣🤣🤣🤣 BiggTim, Jack, Martinnfb and 1 other 4
wunwinglow Posted June 16 Posted June 16 I personally wouldn't want one, but I can see it would fit in with their existing range of kits. Amazing isn't it, how the wonder kits of yesteryear, staggering pieces technical achievement in their day, are now seen as not worthy of attention, EVEN, and this is the weird bit, when they still have no direct competitors subject-wise! Tamiya seriously missed the boat with the Griffon Spits, though.... BiggTim, RadBaron, RCPlym and 2 others 5
cbk57 Posted June 16 Posted June 16 (edited) Hmm, I suppose I would pay in the $300 range but would probably wait until I could get the best deal on one. I would not order it the minute it was released. Whatever retail I would wait and buy at a discount. I really like their 1/48 versions and it is quite a large plane. Getting one in 1/32 is not a high priority to me but I suspect if tamiya released it I would buy and build one. I would probably also wait until things like 3d printed landing gear were out and maybe some other details. As it stands today, hypothetically if there were a Tamiya 1/32 P-38 and a Red Pill F-4 in front of me both on sale, I might pick the F-4 and neither kit is a high priority to me. Like many of you I have levels of desire in 1/32 and I would put both of these as mid tier on my want list in large scale. A 1/32 Red Pill F-4C is higher up on the list if they do one, but if Tamiya does one in 1/48 I would be much happier with that. I would rather have two Tamiya 1/48 F-4C's than one 1/32. Same logic for me with the lightning. However I would rather have a 1/32 Hellcat than a 1/48. Same applies to most WWII single engine fighters. I prefer them in 1/32. Kagemusha Posted June 16 Posted June 16 I'd prefer one from Kotare - who with GWH are the most likely to produce one - no internals, something easily put together, and reasonably priced. Martinnfb, dmthamade, firefly7 and 4 others 7

I expect GWH would over kill it. I bet it is on Kotare's list but I am not sure I want one in 1/32 personally. I have realistically found the 1/48 Tamiya kit to be amazing and built one, I have another on the shelf but have not had a strong enough urge to build the one I have or get the J I want to build from Tamiya. That says to me when it comes to my wallet if anyone does one in 1/32 I am not sure I will buy. KiwiZac and BiggTim 2
Dave Williams Posted June 16 Posted June 16 TBH, I’d only be interested in a F/G/H model. Not much interest in the later versions, and I have the Hobbycraft boxing of the Trumpeter kit if I ever get the urge. I’d love to see Kotare do one. I don’t need the full engines like Tamiya or GWH would do. Kenneth Joy, cbk57 and BiggTim 3

I am a huge Tamiya fan and have two Kotare kits on my bench in progress right now with at least two more in the stash and two on pre-order and want to say that as a qualifier. Knowing their kits well and knowing the Tamiya 1/48 kit. I am not sure Kotare can offer anything other than a bigger kit than the Tamiya 1/48 kit. That is where the P-38 becomes a challenge for me in 1/32. The tamiya kit is so perfect, I am not sure for me that it is worth getting a 1/32 version by anyone. I love kotare, but I am not sure they can make a better kit in 1/32 of the P-38 than Tamiya rendered in 1/48. I am not a scale specific builder. CRAZY IVAN5, BiggTim and tucohoward 3

I’m not saying a Kotare kit would necessarily be better, but it would undoubtedly be a lot cheaper as it wouldn’t have full engines or an opened gun bay, neither of which I really want, and don’t want to pay for. zerosystem, Kagemusha, Tony T and 1 other 4
