Spitfire Mk.XIV "G-FIRE" finished

Finally finished my Airfix 1/48 Spitfire Mk.XIV "G-FIRE", first model finished in 8 years! The one-time owner of this aeroplane Spencer Flack sadly lost his life not too far from me racing his 1959 BRM at a historic race meet at Phillip Island near Melbourne back in 2002. So tragically there is an Aussie connection to the former owner of "G-FIRE". Flack also owned a Sea Fury "G-FURY" and a Hunter "G-HUNT" as well. 

 

"Mr Colour" acrylic paints used. Eduard plus some CMK parts used in the cockpit. Wheels were either CMK or Quickboost - can't remember. The phone flash made the red cooler. It's more red irl.

Cheers mate! I cannot believe it's been 8 years since finishing a model. I'm reinvigorated and hope to up the build rate now.

I was lucky enough to meet Mr Flack a few times as my Dad did various bits of work for him.. (Fixed the figure on the front of his Rolls-Royce being one of the things!)

Thanks very much Richard! One has to say Mr. Flack sure lived his life to the fullest. It's just so tragic it was cut short, but that's how it goes when one lives one's life at that level of risk. I didn't know much about Spencer Flack until starting research on G-FIRE. I've never driven around the circuit at Phillip Island but have flown over the top of it quite a few years ago and even landed at the Phillip Island aerodrome when it existed. I once did go to the track for the first MotoGP there. So I guess it's these memories mixed with the tragedy of Flack's death that added to the mystic of this build. G-FIRE is a seriously beautiful machine. The later mark Spity's are hard core. I recall watching an interview with a onetime commander of BBFM and he was asked his fav Spity - it was their Mk.XIV because they are so powerful versus the "Baby" Spits. 

It is groovy to get a response from someone who knew Mr. Flack. All the best from Melbourne, Australia!
