Airmail shipping to Canada is approx. USD $30.97, so I assume similar for the US.
 

So if the US (and Canada) Eduard MSRP of $165 before shipping holds, it doesn't seem like there is any point ordering this from any North American stores.

Yes, there is an additional 10% tariff for US orders that Hannants adds, but even with it added, it's still cheaper.

 

Edit: I also have yet to hear back from Eduard about my pre-order and if they plan to adjust pricing for North American orders to their store.

How are you calculating shipping?  That shipping seems a little low.

I added the DBMK Sea Fury to my Hannants cart as an equivalent-sized model kit and got an option for that price for Airmal, tracked only in the destination country.

Now, as shipping weight plays a big part in the cost, I just tried to add the Tamiya 1/32 P-51D instead, and, yes, the shipping was higher at US $44.34. With the lack of an engine in the Eduard kit, but the extra weight of the book, perhaps it'll be around the same weight as the Tamiya kit, but maybe in a smaller box.

So I'd still estimate shipping as being anywhere from $30 - 45 USD. Still cheaper than the $165 US MSRP + shipping.

Either way, if this is the case, then it makes no sense for NA buyers to preoder directly from Eduard as shipping is going to be much higher. So I am going to cancel my preorder and wait for Canadian hobby stores to list it.

 

Makes complete sense, Shipping costs going up with no signs of slowing, can't order anything from the EU without getting slammed..

I think I'm with you on that.  I can wait until late this year or early next for a P-51B.  I've waited this long, a few more months to save some dough isn't going to bother me.

As an update, Eduard was not willing to adjust my order with them for Canada to the MSRP in Euros.

 

They told me $165 USD is the MSRP for Canada, USA, South America, and Australia, so essentially ROW outside Europe. 

 

So I cancelled my pre-order and I am hoping Hannants will be the best way to get one in Canada for a more reasonable price.

To confirm what Troy was saying a bit earlier, I worked for Lockheed-Martin for many years as a metal fitter/airframe fabricator, and I can tell you, the first thing we did, when we cut a piece of sheet aluminum off the roll was to wipe it down with chemicals, to clean, and remove all mfg markings.  Yes, I realize this is a piece of 2024 T3 aluminum, .024" thick.  I would ASSume this is common practice throughout the industry.  Of course someone will find a picture somewhere of a WWII era aircraft that was constructed with the writing still on.  I could see that in the heat of war time construction; but even so, I'd bet my money on a B-17 rather than a P-51.  

I am interested in this kit, but am also getting tired of being F-withed by Euro mfg's.  

Next time I'm in Old Blighty, you guys tell me what you'd want from the states, and we'll trade out kit.

What is the story with that? I can fully understand that I'll have to pay the tariff, but the rest of these countries and regions??

The reciprocal position is just as true - it's pretty much impossible for anyone in the EU to buy anything from the US these days for all the same reasons (inflated prices, sky-high shipping costs, taxes and customs clearance fees). Actually US modellers are now penalized by a situation that was profitable to them for more than twenty years. The lack of import tariff, cheap overseas transport and cheaper cost of manpower in Asia were some of the reasons the production of a lot of entertainment and toy goods was relocated from America to Asia from the end of the 20th century. Alas this had some nasty long term consequences: there are no more american domestic producers for most models and few aftermarket producers, cost of transport exploded since COVID and finally tariffs emerged. So, our American friends are now tasting what we know in Europe for decades: heavier costs for the same items that used to be cheap in the US. However there is now a major difference as Europe kept a large ecosystem of plastic kit producers, aftermarket companies and resellers. I'm afraid being a modeller in the US is going to become a quite expensive hobby amongst other ones relying strongly on foreign items.
