You guys are likely to be waiting forever.  The Hybrid kits aren’t like the Profipack kits.  In those kits, you get the entire kit on the plastic sprue, with added resin and PE parts that replace some of the plastic parts.  Take out the resin and PE (weekend edition or overtrees) and you can still build the kit.

 

In the hybrid kits, the 3D printed parts don’t have plastic part counterparts.  Some parts are plastic, and some are 3D, and you need both types of parts to build a complete aircraft.  You can see the parts in the Squadron listing.  The plastic parts consist of the clear parts, fuselage, wings, tail, prop, and control surfaces.  The cockpit, wheel wells, wheels, gear struts, and exhausts only exist as 3D printed parts.  I doubt Eduard even molded plastic versions of those parts.

I do have to say, as I mentioned in the other thread about this kit, that I am not very happy with how Eduard has handled the pricing for the pre-orders.

 

I've been eagerly anticipating this model, and as soon as the pre-order was open, I ordered one directly from Eduard at the $165 USD they list it for on their site, shipping to Canada. I did think it was a tad expensive compared to other equivalent 1/32 kits from Tamiya or Kotare, esp. since it doesn't have an engine, but I know it has a lot of 3d printed parts, so you won't need as much AM for it. And I know, as a Royal Edition boxing, it has a lot of extras, like the included book. So I pulled the trigger.

 

So I was pretty disappointed to see the price European modellers were saying they paid for it here, and after going back to Eduard's site and setting the currency to Euros, I was very frustrated.

 

Here is how the pricing breaks down from what I've seen online so far (before VAT):

Eduard Store (Czech Republic) 

2314.05 CZK = ~96 € or ~$110 USD

93.35 € = ~$108 USD

$165 USD

Squadron (United States)

$165 USD

Jadlam (UK)

£79.20 (listed as £94.95 with VAT) = ~91.75 € or ~$105.85 USD

So IMO, something is wrong here. Now I completely understand that regional pricing for any product can be different due to many factors, so if Eduard has set the North American recommended retail to $165 USD, so be it. A little too expensive, to be honest, but it's their right to set whatever NA wholesale and suggested retail prices they want for their stockists, like Squadron and any other US store that starts pre-orders for the kit, such as Sprue Brothers.

 

What gets me is the price when ordering directly from Eduard in the Czech Republic. Why have I been charged SO MUCH more for the same model when pre-ordering it from the same store? The only thing that should be different is the shipping costs, and I know and expect the shipping costs to Canada are going to be higher than shipments within Europe.

 

And tariffs should not come into play here for a buyer in Canada. Yes, perhaps there are some additional costs to ship to the US from the Czech Republic due to the tariff situation, and if so, then spell those out clearly in any breakdown of the price. But the base price for the kit itself (excluding any VAT, other costs, shipping, etc.), when ordering from the same store, should be exactly the same for everyone.

 

I've already emailed Eduard to try and get an explanation about the pricing differences, and if they are not willing to adjust the price I paid to match the price they are charging in Euros, I am going to cancel my pre-order with them. I would try to order from Jadlam, but it looks like they will not ship to Canada  , so I am going to have to wait to see when Hannants or someone else with the "right" price opens pre-orders.

Well you may be right Dave but it says The Royal Hybrid edition so I suspect they will do a all plastic kit at some time once they sell enough of the Royal ones. Now if they don't they will lose a lot of customers who only buy profipacks and weekend editions but we will just have to wait and see I suppose. Cheers Bob.

Mr Sulc said in one of their podcasts that the 1/32 line of kits will ONLY be sold/made as Hybrid kits, plastic and printed parts combined.

 

There will be NO complete all-plastic kits!

 

There will never be any all-plastic kits, neither will there be weekend editions or overtrees in this line.

 

All kits will be intoduced as Royal-boxings with some extra goodies included as more decal schemes, books and/or extra parts or other little trinkets.

 

Later they may be released as ordinary Hybrid kits, as the 1/48th Avia S-199.

We're hoping that Eduard includes the 3D printed parts with the plastic sprues. After all, the 3D printed parts are on "trees" too. At this point, anything is possible. 

 

And the keyword is "if". To that end, if Eduard doesn't do an Overtrees boxing that includes the physical parts to complete a model, then so be it.

I’m thinking $165 is a bit much but Squadron got my money anyway. I could change my mind about the cost when I finally get my hands on it and check it out. 
Was planning on grabbing at least a couple anyway. We’ll see where things go a little later.

I had hoped Eduard would do the kit so there would be options such as a weekend edition, overtrees version etc, at a lower price. I have a stack of P-51b decals to use but at $165 per....Eduard has priced themselves out of multiple kits purchases (at least for me).

Perhaps I will pick up the Eduard kit down the road (second hand at a show). Until then, sad to say, I will stick with the lower cost Trumpeter kit, add a few low cost details parts, and keep the kit around $75 all in.

Wait to see how bad Eduard botched the wing root (still no pics online of a built model).
