I guess I paint Figures now....Gladiator Hulk, anyone?

Got half the basecoat on the plume laid down.

Home stretch on Hulk. 

 

He has an "obedience disc" that controls him in this version.  It's supposed to be a jewel or something, but its just a smooth dome.  

 

I decided to paint it clear red over silver.

 

So black, gloss clear, then AK Super Chrome.  This process is pretty annoying, every step gets a 2 day cure.

 

Here's everything before the red.

More small progress, all clear coats this time, satin for the manicure and gloss for the mouth. 

 

 

 

Lastly, the mouth and eyes got some gloss

 

 

Still wrestling with the obedience stone.  I needed to clear coat it because the Tamiya clear was going to wreck the AK Super Chrome, but that knocked the mirror finish off.  Still pretty shiny, but more like stainless than chrome. I think it will still give the effect.

Two light coats of the clear red. IT's pretty "hot", so I will let this cure a few hours and his it again with thicker coats tonight.

Amazingly clever stuff.  This takes some serious skills and we need to see more LSP figures on here.  I doubt there is any way I could have resisted painting his toe nails in currently fashionable colors, however.  Carry on, please.

Let's change gears.  The "armor" was not blowing me away.  The "dark silver" color is really dark grey and doesnt look like metal to me at all. The light or bright silver has a lot of white in it and, although it looks like metal, it doesn't look like the kind of metal someone would make armor out of.  I mixed them and was happier, but last night was in a drybrushing mood, and I did a few different shades of highlighting, trying to focus on the edges of the armor but also creases and some work in the flats for variety.  I think it looks a lot more like metal now.

You might try rubbing some graphite powder on the high points. That is my go-to technique for making something look like polished metal. Test it on something else first.

It is looking pretty good, though.

I tried edge highlighting, I settled on AK super chrome instead of a white or off white, deck tan is my default but it didn't look right.  If this didn't work I was going to try graphite, but I was in a painting mood, so here we go.

 

 

 

 

I also picked out a few edges of deep gouges and hit just the edge with the high shine silver, and I like the effect.  I was really bummed that the plain from the bottle Pro Acryl dark silver looked so much like grey paint and not at all like metal, but the dark washes and edge highlighting really brought the realism factor up...if a giant angry green man can be called "realistic".

 

I could not resist dry fitting the hand, shoulder pad, and mace:

 

 

 

Stil wrestling with how to best gloss the obedience stone, so far it's either Tamiya gloss or UV resin, but I am not sure how the resin will smooth out before I cure it, I don't want a shiny but bumpy surface.
