Martinnfb Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Thank you for the exciting news. I wonder what happened to the Su-7 project? But then the little Nazicobra is OK as well.
CRAZY IVAN5 Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Ok, I'll be the outlier here and ask the question, why? There were only 4-5 built and was a failure, can't even fold this over into a "Luft46" type thing . What DID happen to the SU-7 project. D Bellis, Martinnfb, RCPlym and 2 others 4 1
thierry laurent Posted May 23 Posted May 23 It was indeed a failure (as was the 209). However it had an important role in the evolution of the technologies developed by Messerschmitt. So, globally this is not worse than the Horten we got from TWO different producers. Personally, I'm happy as I always liked the lines of that aircraft! firefly7 and Martinnfb 2
MikeC Posted May 23 Posted May 23 The lines of the fuselage show a certain family resemblance to the 262 imo, particularly aft of the cockpit. As to "why", well why not? At least this was actually built, unlike some of the German paper projects that have been kitted. firefly7 and Martinnfb 2

RBrown Posted May 23 Author Posted May 23 (edited) The Me 309 was not a hopeless design, more a victim of timing, priorities, and wartime pressures. The potential of the turbojet is what ended the development of the Me 309. On the basis of historical significance alone the Me 309 seams an odd choice for a 1/32 scale kit, but it is cool looking, it is Luftwaffe, and it has the Messerschmitt pedigree. The turbojet's potential was almost certainly a contributing factor. However, the immediate reason for the Me 309's cancellation was that the far more promising Fw 190D-0 (which flew about 4 months after the Me 309's first flight) showed significantly better performance and greater developmental potential while not impinging on Daimler-Benz engine production. Back to the subject at hand, I'll be buying at least one of Fly's '309 kits simply because I find the subject interesting. Everyone else's mileage will likely vary. firefly7 Posted May 24 Posted May 24 I'll be buying 2 of these as soon as they are available. Way to go Fly. 👍 Cheers. Martinnfb 1
dutik Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Will bypass this one. Looking forward for the Su-7 kit. Box art shows the unlucky czech Su-7 shot down accidentally by a polish Mig-21 in 1971. The pilot survived; the czech AF recievend a Su-7 from polish AF to compensate the loss. Nice choice Regards - dutik KiwiZac, Martinnfb and CRAZY IVAN5 2 1
