Ok thanks gents.  Very little of anything like that on the Hornet for obvious reasons but its nice to know they showed some restraint.

Getting this thread back on topic, I realized that the BarracudaCast gunsight had some slight but noticeable differences, so I made some modifications:

 

 

 

 

For the side placard I used an Airscale decal. I'm pretty pleased at the modification overall, but I might go back and redo the gauge markings.

Thanks Brian! I see an airscale compass decal in my future, and I'm unashamedly using Peter's 1/18 Sea Fury build as a reference.

I’ll be keeping an eye on this one Tom, and using Peter’s build as the ultimate reference is a wise move, I did exactly the same with his Fury biplane.

Moving onto the rest of the cockpit, I assembled the sidewalls, addin a blend of plastic parts and photoetch. The fit and engineering is impressive, and the only modification I made was to replace plastic cables with lead wire:

 

 

I also assembled the seat, adding texture and more of a three dimensional look by using Tamiya putty diluted with thinner. This also removed the quilted effect on the bottom cushion which I believe is more prototypical:

 

 

 

Moving on I'll be finishing up cockpit assembly, spray everything with Tamiya Rubber Black, then add weathering effects, paint details and add placards and stencils. This has been a lot of fun to build so far!

Nice work, Tom. I believe for an in-service aircraft, there wouldn't be any seat cushion at all, as it's space reserved for a parachute pack.

Very nice start Tom!  The IP looks great and the modifications to the gunsight are really well executed.  The cockpit looks like it has some nice detail.
