Getting this thread back on topic, I realized that the BarracudaCast gunsight had some slight but noticeable differences, so I made some modifications:

For the side placard I used an Airscale decal. I'm pretty pleased at the modification overall, but I might go back and redo the gauge markings.

Nice work Tom!

I too used some Airscale decals to supplement my Hornet.

Thanks Brian! I see an airscale compass decal in my future, and I'm unashamedly using Peter's 1/18 Sea Fury build as a reference.

Thanks Brian! I do as well. They remind me of the Special Hobby Tempest and Whirlwind kits but with better fit and instructions.

Sincerely,

Tom

And no anhedral on the centre section!

I’ll be keeping an eye on this one Tom, and using Peter’s build as the ultimate reference is a wise move, I did exactly the same with his Fury biplane.

Glad to have you checking in!

Moving onto the rest of the cockpit, I assembled the sidewalls, addin a blend of plastic parts and photoetch. The fit and engineering is impressive, and the only modification I made was to replace plastic cables with lead wire:

I also assembled the seat, adding texture and more of a three dimensional look by using Tamiya putty diluted with thinner. This also removed the quilted effect on the bottom cushion which I believe is more prototypical:

9

Moving on I'll be finishing up cockpit assembly, spray everything with Tamiya Rubber Black, then add weathering effects, paint details and add placards and stencils. This has been a lot of fun to build so far!

Nice work, Tom. I believe for an in-service aircraft, there wouldn't be any seat cushion at all, as it's space reserved for a parachute pack.

Kev

Thanks Kev! Good to know. I might be able to correct this.

There's a replacement early type seat, and spinner, from Aerocraft, out of stock currently due to relocation.

Thank you, I saw this as well. I’ve managed to make a correction but a primer coat will be the judge!

Very nice start Tom!  The IP looks great and the modifications to the gunsight are really well executed.  The cockpit looks like it has some nice detail.
