Throwing my hat into the ring of DBMK kit builds! I'll be building a Canadian subject, either one of the options from the kit or a subject from the Uprise Decals sheet. In the meantime, I've gotten started.

The build starts with the instrument panel, and I've chosen to use the decals over the kit part vs. using photoetch. I prefer the 3-d look of the original panel, and the decals conformed flawlessly, just having a tendency to fold in on themselves. However, they are very durable and some gentle pursuasion set them in order. After painting the panel Tamiya Engine Black I used Tamiya Clear as a gloss, then applied the decals. I used MicroSol and Set but they probably would have conformed anyway. I finished off with a flat coat, then painted Future onto the gauges:

Here you can see I've also moved onto the gunsight assembly. I had a leftover gunsight from BarracudaCast that had slightly better detail and decals, so I used this instead.

I'lll be holding off on applying the panel glass until later in the build. Now onto the rest of the cockpit!

Neat!

I know the Hornet might not quite be up to the same exact standards of the (high pressure?) Sea Fury, but I really dig these DBMK kits so far. Nice OOB details that you dont have to add much to except a tiny bit of modeling skills, and/or some new markings if wanted.

Cant wait to see more!

Thanks Brian! I do as well. They remind me of the Special Hobby Tempest and Whirlwind kits but with better fit and instructions.

Sincerely,

I think so too Tom...............accuracy first and foremost, but a very close 2nd for me is fit and buildability.

In any media for me! That is one US Navy/Marines prop job I could definitely attack with glue!

I'll never forget the one I saw running up it's engines at the end of the runway at RAF Wroughton decades ago! What a beast of an aircraft!

Nice start, Tom! I better get a move on. I've had my kit for months, and guys who have just received theirs are already catching me up!

Kev

Thanks Kev, and you are the pathfinder!

Out of curiosity, how prevalent are the rivets on the Sea Fury?

On the aircraft itself?

On the DBMK model.

I know the real one does have them, but they seem so flush in some areas  as to nearly not be seen at all.

You can see some of the rivet detail in my own build, Brian. It's a very petite mix of raised and (mostly) recessed detail, and is very nicely done.

I agree with Kevin. The rivets are reminiscent of the Tamiya Spitfires.
