  1. 1. Which of these two choices would you like to see an airscale kit of in 1/32?

With the Dornier design complete and hopefully likely to pay for the next kit development, it is time to sound out some ideas with you all.

I am not doing another twin next, so they are out and I am not really a jet guy, but the early ones are so Flash Gordon I can’t help thinking it would be fun to do one, hence the F106. The Firefly would be a Mk1 not a MkV as Graeme at Iconicair is still working on one and I don’t want to undo all his work – I think they are different enough to warrant separate kits..

I am interested in reasoned opinion too, so it is not either or at this stage, if you have an idea, drop it in here

Thanks in advance

Peter

The Fairey Firefly would definitely get my vote; it would tie in nicely with the Sea Fury and sit alongside the MkV. I believe the Canadians bought some MkIs, but later sold them to the Dutch and the Danes, so a potential model market there.  If you’re not averse to a jet, as a follow up a Sea Hawk would be fantastic and fit into the FAA fold!

This is one Ill have to sit out.

While the Firefly is interesting, it feels a bit too niche to sell in numbers, but I know squat.

The 102 is interesting, but for me personally it would have to be a "Six!" (F106) if I put money into a kit of that variety of airframe.

Good voting all!

interesting - it could just as easily be the F106 - I checked and there is a 2600 page parts manual available for it :)

I'm not a jet enthusiast either, but the F-102A would be very nice. On the other hand, I'd like to whisper the name of the Sepecat Jaguar in your ear.:innocent:

The Jaguar was in my top 10, but I felt that Airfix having just done one in 1/48 would have hoovered up a lot of potential customers :(

Would you run into any licensing issues with more modern stuff Peter?

I know Convair no longer exist as a stand alone company but were they absorbed by a larger company?

The -102/-106 are quite large units but are definitely a hole to fill in the century series fighters.

I don't imagine for a minute that something like a dH Chipmunk or Folland Gnat would float your boat or pique your interest enough to create a model kit so my suggestion would be an early Harrier if you're venturing into jets.

Regardless of what you choose I'll wager it will be mouthwatering and a benchmark for years to come.

Cheers,

Guy

My vote would be the 102. We have good 104s, decent 100s and 105s. The 102 flew in Vietnam as an air defense interceptor and would help fill my collection. Could also use a UH-iD/H.

As you know, 1/32 is not my scale - unless it was a full print with an option for a commission as a 1/24 kit B). That said, the Firefly would have my vote.

As for alternative options, I think it would be good to see something from Blackburn in a larger scale, i.e. a Skua or Roc. The former were also credited with the first enemy aircraft shot down by British aircraft during WW2. Plus, I may also be able to help with reference material.

Well, I am a jet guy so my vote is for the -102! Just remember there were 2 different wings, case x and case xx and they are serial number sensitive.  On airframes 56-1317 and onward used the case xx wing. There were a crap load of units that used the -102 so marking options are extensive to say the least. The -106 would be a good choice too though it's a much larger aircraft[ I rode in a "b" model once, what a ride!]
