Cicchino Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Guys, I have both an Elegoo Mars and a Saturn and I've pretty much been using Elegoo's standard grey resin, sometimes with some of their Tough resin mixed in. I've been happy enough with results so far, but would like to hear from others if they've are particularly pleased with other resins. I'm trying to think about things if I were to produce parts for sale rather than only for my own use. I look forward to the discussion! Regards John
gunpowder Posted March 29 Posted March 29 Ive been using anycubic water washeable abs like 3.0. That works well on my saturn and mars. I just found it easier and cheaper to get than elegoo which i had been using. I tend to get mine from Amazon here in the UK. its tough stuff
LSP_Kevin Posted March 29 Posted March 29 I've used nothing but Elegoo's ABS-Like Grey for the entire time I've been printing. While I haven't really had any issues with the resin itself, having never used anything else means I'm not really qualified to compare it to other resins. But it does seem to offer a good compromise between strength, flexibility, and detail. Kev
red Dog Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Same as Kev, always used the standard fast elegoo resin and happy with it
Citadelgrad Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Odd man out. Anycubic abs like resin 2, Grey flavor. Ive only printed a handful of things, but it seems to do what I need. Like most I dont see any reason to dance with a stranger when this partner works fine.
JNordgren41 Posted April 2 Posted April 2 I have an O.G. Saturn and a Mars 4 Ultra. My two go-to resins are Siraya Tech Build Sonic Great and Fast Navy Grey. They're both great resins, the Build is very dimensionally stable, reasonably tough and flexible, and can be drilled and tapped. The Fast holds detail extremely well and is still fairly tough, although it's a touch more brittle than the Build. I've also used Elegoo ABS-Like in a few colors and Resione G217 Clear. The Resione is great stuff for printing clear parts, it's very resistant to yellowing and transmits light well. I used it for some light guides on the 1/350 Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise refit I'm working on with full LED lighting.
wunwinglow Posted April 2 Posted April 2 As you, Elegoo standard 8k plus 20% tough works well, been using Tough straight too, for some prototype medical device parts, and just had some ABS-like delivered to try. Standard Grey straight is a bit brittle, but seems to keep its shape, not convinced Tough on its own would not deform over time, but maybe that is me being pessimistic! More testing needed, obviously. Adore my Saturn 16k Ultra, brilliant piece of kit! Just KEEP IT CLEAN......
RCPlym Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra. Jayo Standard and Standard Plus grey. Exposed 35sec bottom layers and 2.5sec normal for 0.05mm and 28sec/1.8sec for 0.02mm layers. Not had a print fail bar my own fault. Cheapest resin I could find. Tried Elegoo ABS-Like and had several issues. Tried the settings from the Elegoo sheet and it prints various exposure test pieces absolutely fine, but printing in anger seems have several problems I have yet to work out. One was printing two mirrored identical parts. One printed perfectly, the other came away from the supports. wunwinglow 1

I bought a broken one with the dreaded knocking sound (this one was REALLY loud!!!). Found it had suffered a big resin spill, been badly cleaned out and the vat tilt stepper motor was somewhat poorly and it's limit switch was gunked up. New motor, switch and Fresnel (bit of resin hit it) for £30 odd and it is back in perfect working order. Another tenner for a new front panel and it will also look as good as new too! wunwinglow 1

Right, trying the Elegoo ABS-like 3.0 Plus, Vanilla colour (so I can differentiate the parts) and so far REALLY liking it! Prints beautifully, sturdy prints that are def not as brittle as the standard, and 'dryer' than the slightly soapy, but tough, Tough version. All solvent based resins, really not convinced with the water washables, and as I run the printer in the shed/studio, pong no issue. I have standard exposure down to 1.9sec at the mo, but might drop it a tiny bit more. Rec settings were way too much at 2.5sec. I just finished a full set of Wizard parts in the ABS-like resin, with the smaller parts in Tough, so will get one assembled and report back shortly. Honestly, really loving this machine, and now the resin too! One other benefit of the ABS-like is it is significantly runnier than the Standard and Tough, so it drips off the finished parts very quickly, when filtering it it goes straight through the nylon mesh in the paint filter in seconds and it washes off the parts in the ISO baths in moments, especially from inside wire passages, drain and vent channels, leaving the parts completely clean. Love it! I just need to get some MRP Chrome paint now! Tim

I have printed out seceral Martin Baker Mk.9 seats that have an extremely fine seat separation ring less than 0.75mm diameter and 0.11mm thick that printed perfectly every time with the cheap resin - even in high speed mode. I am firmly convinced that any problems with prints are not any fault of the machine. I will give the Ultra 16K a good run with the Jayo resin and see how it turns out. I'll keep on trying with the Elegoo ABS-Like (it is the first version though) as parts that do successfully print are rather good! 😁😁😁 I have ordered the Jayu cheap ABS-Like resin and will give that a good trial. wunwinglow 1
JayW Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Elegoo standard space gray here - I have never used anything other than that. So cannot compare. However, other than a bit brittle I love it. Great detail. My question to everyone - what is a really good clear resin? I have used Nova3d high transparency and Resione G217. I dislike both. wunwinglow 1

I dislike both. Formlabs Clear V5 is excellent. I have printed really clear canopies with it. It can, and has, produced optical quality lenses as shown at Formlabs. Also I have tried Inslogic Clear. Very close results to the Formlabs and way, way cheaper. However, as clear results both have given, they suffer with an icy-blue tint on edges when in sunlight. I have tried UV cut varnishes to no avail. Blackening the edges mitigates it a lot, but it is not totally eliminated. In artificial light, there is no sign of it. Image is my first attempt of printing a Voodoo rear canopy. First time I ever printed clear resin... Edited April 8 by RCPlym wunwinglow 1
