Jim Barry Posted March 27 Author Posted March 27 (edited) Raoul Lufbery coming along. Should be on my hosting page next week. Poor man, he never really fit into America or France as a civilian, but fought for them both valiantly and gave his life doing so. Working now with a few customers to deliver on their figure desires and it’s going great! My own request for Douglas Badar is printed and arrives on Wednesday. His Spitfire is waiting! Jim Barry Posted April 1 Author Posted April 1 (edited) I just published Lufbery today. Because I can't stand behind some historical figures' faces as being perfectly true to life, I'm just calling him "based on Lufbery" and you can be the judge. I just don't want this to be a deceptive sell, especially if someone is printing them at large large scale like 1/6th or something. Enjoy ! https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/various/french-ww1-pilot-based-on-lufbery-image Edited April 1 by Jim Barry
BiggTim Posted April 1 Posted April 1 (edited) Jim, you and Jeroen have both inspired me to try this myself. I've been tinkering with it over the last week or so at work (no, I shouldn't be doing that). Very cool stuff! PS: Here's one I did last night of my friend Lee. Still needs a bunch of cleanup. DugyB Posted April 8 Posted April 8 On 3/20/2026 at 9:55 PM, Jim Barry said: Does anyone think I have modeled Eddie's cap wrong (my file at the bottom or in image above)? I have feedback that my 3D file has it wrong. I dug up a bunch of other images to check. I can't see that I do, but I wanted more input if I could. I don't want any shortcomings in my offerings, especially right off the bat. Thanks! As a man who wore that head piece often I quickly noticed in your rendering it looks loose on him, on the left side of your figure you’ll see what I mean, it should fit tightly just as the right side. Other than that he looks pretty dang good. I may have to employ, commission you and someone else to print. I’d love a figure of Don Gentile sitting on the wing of his P-51 🤔
Jim Barry Posted April 8 Author Posted April 8 (edited) Thank you for the feedback @DugyB. It can be difficult to get it right when the image itself does capture some detail. Ai will imagine it and it may do it well, it may miss. I’ll see what I can do to adjust. Please direct message any custom work requests , I’ll be happy to see if I can design the 3D file for you. Don Gentile on the P-51 wing would be awesome. He’s on his throne! The photo is vague what makes up his right side and the ai guess could be a strain, but we can try! Jim Barry Posted April 9 Author Posted April 9 My first pilot offering (and his dog) has a painted example now. Finally... Polecadt, geedubelyer, Martinnfb and 3 others 5 1
Jim Barry Posted April 19 Author Posted April 19 Don’t be shy really to ask for anything custom that would enhance your models. Hasegawa isn’t! geedubelyer and chukw 2
Jim Barry Posted April 19 Author Posted April 19 A favorite book of mine in middle school. Today I made a figure of Sakai. Will go well with my Trumpeter 1/24 Zero, I think. Newoldguy1977, Gazzas, LSP_Ray and 3 others 6
RCPlym Posted April 19 Posted April 19 This AI is getting ever more capable. Some of the printer slicing programs are beginning to include image to print plugins. I have seen the Chitu Systems Chitu Glyph in the latest ChituBox slicer that seems very capable. Before long it really will be sketch to print anything in one place! Jim Barry 1
Jim Barry Posted April 20 Author Posted April 20 Yes, I've notice rapid improvement. This figure for a customer was particularly amazing transferring from image to 3D without much intervention. patricksparks, LSP_Ray, Gazzas and 2 others 4 1
Jim Barry Posted April 20 Author Posted April 20 News you can use! Maybe like most of you, you don't have a printer. Well, I'm setting up an account with THANGS that will allow you to order prints of my stuff. I've been toying around with offering printing but most of you are all over the world and it's crazy expensive, but not through Thangs. A figure I just tested cost $11 to ship to me (US) from the Netherlands. Printing costs and my design and online "store" management costs probably something like $20 = so $30 for a stock figure and less per figure if you batch the orders. I can post/host the custom designs there too. Not that fastest thing or the least expensive, but it's something until we all get printers! Stay tuned for more! Jim Barry Posted April 22 Author Posted April 22 (edited) Ok! The STORE is open! Become a member (2 minutes) and then go shopping! My prices are 25% above cost to be perfectly transparent. You pay for shipping (from the Netherlands where my designs are actually printed). The quality is INSANE, I'm not kidding and the care they ship the products is top tier. No cutting, no fuss. I have been quoted as $10 shipping cost for a single figure to the US. If more international people could maybe get accounts and just get shipping quotes, I'd REALLY appreciate the support there with business intelligence work! Note too that I can host a private sale of a custom figure too if you can't find a friend to print your stuff. We would do the design quote offline and I would have no markup at printing. https://thangs.com/designer/jbarry911/3d-model/Luftwaffe WW2 pilot and dog 1%3A24 -1541454 Edited April 22 by Jim Barry Newoldguy1977, LSP_Ray and Martinnfb 3
