Looking at all of the very nice builds of G-10s out of the Revell kit using 3D printed noseparts i wanted to have one too. i just cant spend that kind of money for the parts atm, so i looked into a way to convert the Revell nose. undouptedly the result wont be near as good, but i love the challenge

the pics in Tomas thread help a lot to determine how it should look. if i am not mistaken there were two nose versions, the Erla/MTT and the WNF. the latter had the bulges, the first one was wider with no bulges. i will do the Erla/MTT version

the livery wil be a JG 300 plane from Timo Schenk (red 5). there is a decal set, but they got the "5" wrong so i will do them myself

the cowling with the gunport will have to be widened too, along with the moving of the gunthroughs outboard

This can surely be done, I did this in the past. The work took some time but it wasn't complicated, really. Since you want your upper panel to widen towards the front you can use this surgery to do this as well. I also lengthened the gun throughs slightly with a round file, they are longer on the Erla cowling.

In this picture I had only modified one side, the difference can clearly be seen. IMHO, this correction does wonders in making the nose look so much more Erla-looking and better.

One problem area with the Revell cowling is that the real under cowling (under the exhausts) is not symmetrical. It is slightly wider on the left side and also slightly rounded. (The exhaust stacks lies deeper inside the left cowling than in the right side) It's not much but if corrected it will also improve the look of the nose.

Jean-Claude Mermet, a French "Experten", studied this in deep detail. He has made a deep analysis of the Revell kit and corrected it. See a French modelling article here.

Wishing you the best of luck!

I know of two different 1/32 decal sets with Timo-Schenko/red 5 included:

-BarracudaCals BC-32144 - Erla Bf 109G-10's, Part 1

-EagleCals EC32-155 Erla Bf 109 G-10s * JG 300

The BarracudaCals set is long OOP and very difficult to find. (Impossible I'd say, I've tried for some time...) The EagleCals is available, still in production. It's not perfect, which decal set is? But very well researched, If you make the lower part of the number 5 slightly narrower(approx 0.8 mm) it will become perfect.

Late Erla G-10 had balkenkreutze with different proportions. The EagleCal set has the wrong larger size upper wing cross, but the correct size is in the Revell kit decals.

The pic can be found in the book JAGDGESCHWADER 300 "WILDE SAU" Vol.2 Jean-Yves Lorant & Richard Goyat, pic on p.224.

Don't miss it: In the beginning of that thread, there is a link to an equally important article. It is the previous review of the Revell kit itself.

You seem to have most of it sorted out, then.

It is a very ambitious project. Not altogether easy, but should be very fun! I look eagerly forward to follow your progress, and wish you all of luck!

Don't hesitate to ask if I can be of any assistance.

/Tomas
