smotti Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Good morning. I will soon be building a 1/32 scale Kotare Spitfire Mk.Ia (Mid). However, I have doubts about the cockpit color. Kotare calls it Supermarine Interior Green, FS34272, made with two parts XF-71 and one part X-28, both from Tamiya. The instruction manual also indicates Humbrol 120 as an equivalent. Searching on the IPMS Stockholm website (Urban's Colour Reference), they indicate Gunze C312 Green FS34227 as the Humbrol equivalent. The instruction manual for the Eduard 1/48 Spitfire indicates Gunze C364 Aircraft Grey Green. The Tamiya 1/48 Spitfire manual indicates XF-71. In short, what would be the best option in your opinion? I thank you all in advance for your collaboration. Sandro, Brazil.
dennismcc Posted January 15 Posted January 15 There was a discussion on this a while ago on Britmodeller. My preference is Humbrol 120 after years of using Humbrol 78, this after comparing 120 to the RAFM chips. But as always, your model your choice. Here is the Britmodeller thread. https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235099297-humbrol-opinions/ Cheers Dennis europapete 1
Juggernut Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Wasn't there two separate shades of green on these early spitfires, one being the "usual" grey-green and the other being the Supermarine "green"? I see both listed in the Kotare instruction booklet but don't know much else other than it appears there's a choice of one or both. geedubelyer 1
Stew Dapple Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Kotare's notes say that some of the cockpit parts were supplied as pre-painted units - from memory, the seat, joystick and it's control rod - and these would have (most likely) been painted in the standard RAF interior grey-green, hence both interior colours appearing in the instructions paint list Cheers, Stew Uncarina 1
smotti Posted January 16 Author Posted January 16 Oh my Gosh!!! You're right. Checking the manual more closely, there are parts painted with the traditional Grey Green and others with Supermarine Interior Green. Even so, could I use Gunze C312 instead of mixing the Tamiya paints? Thank you very much. Sandro.
Furie Posted January 16 Posted January 16 For my Kotare Spit Mk I, I also noticed that there were two different types of paint used in the cockpit. I used MRP-326 for the Supermarine Interior Green and, more traditionally, MRP-111 for the IGG.
