Howdy everyone!  I can't imagine a 109 group build without me being involved.  Thank you LSP for hosting a build of my favorite bird.  I'm looking forward to seeing all of your builds from early 109 conversions to late war birds to Avias and Buchons.  Let the good times roll!

After no modelling for a month due to illness, I'm hoping that I can manage enough steadiness to build this kit.  I paid full retail price for it, so I wanna get it built before Kotare releases their Emil.

The kit has lots of goodies OOB including HGW surface rivets (my favorite kind of rivet) so that I don't need to buy anything else.  The wheel well inserts are nice and pliable, so i reckon I'm just gonna use them.  I've been pretty fortunate as far as the Dragon pink stuff goes.  But I can't remember which glue to use.

Regarding the title...  I have lots of JG27 Emil photos.  All the way from the BoB to Afrika.  And the kit has enough stuff to make E3, E4, E7, or E4Jabo or E7Jabo.  So, I haven't decided which photo will be my inspiration.  I never use kit schemes, so it may come down to a coin toss.

I think I have a Luftwaffe pilot in desert garb...  I imagine he's supposed to represent Marseille.  But who knows what he'll look like if I paint him.

Nice, I've often nearly purchased this boxing but couldnt bring myself to pay the price!

Looking foward to your progress.

Regards. Andy

I think, by the time you add the surface rivets, you're adding a lot of money to the value.  It also has resin exhausts...  So, I can see that it was pretty 'worth-it'.

Gazzas,
"Nice pic...   what I'm wondering is where are the MG-FF for that plane.  It looks like it has MG 17's in the wing.  No drum bulges...  difficult to explain."

Probably a refurbished E-1, with a retro-fit to bring it to almost E-7 standards.

Ok...  I have it.  A hopefully unique and unusual looking bird.

Yellow cowl.  JG 27 emblem.  Forward-pointing-triangle...  in ambiguous color.  Non-edged yellow 6.  Handprints on the white band and oil marks on the wings.  And various other signs of wear.  Perfect.

Not sure about this stain forward of the office.  Looks like an artifact on the surface of the original...  like spilled coffee.  Waddya think?

Of particular note is the lack of exhaust staining.  Must have been wiped off quickly after every sortie.

The triangle looks like an overpainted chevron.

I would guess it is fresh  65.

The classic desert paint scheme has in the past been modified because we see overspray in that area with a color that is neither 65,nor dark green. Could well be 02 and it covers the area around the triangle and going forward. It seems to be sprayed on the wings too, modifying the original finish considerably.

It's interesting that you mention the wing.  I have further photos of gelb 6.  The starboard side doesn't have the markings of the port side...   which in itself was not an unknown phenomenon.  If it is indeed the same aircraft, what is interesting is camoflage seen on the leading edge of the starboard wing in the photo below.

It seems the armament has already been harvested from the wreck.

what an interesting Emil!

also note the style of the number matches those usually seen in white ie quite 'chunky', whereas Yellow 4 is much slimmer and has a thin black outline

This is a bit of a teaser for the video I plan to make. It should help a lot. I’m sure there’s many experienced modellers who have already sussed it out - I just want to help those who aren’t that familiar with these aircraft or struggle with this kit. There’s some bonkers suggestions in the instructions!.
