Hi Sam,

You won't recognise me from my LSP 'name' but I first met you at one of IPMS Australia's club meetings - yes, I'm a member.   Always loved your work and your attitude to modelling.   It's so nice to see you extending yourself beyond AFV's and producing some stunning models.   Keep up the awesome work!

Cheers,

Wayne. (aka 'Grissom')

Your video build has really tempted me to make an exception to my self imposed ‘ not 1/24 ‘ rule  especially as the ´109 was a relatively small aircraft.

It looks like a well engineered and well fitting ( you might have mentioned that :D ) kit, and pretty quick build.

Looking forward to more.

Apologies, I’ve been hopeless with image updates here.

just uploaded episode 3 of the build to my YT channel.

Can reveal that I’m depicting the Bf109G-6 that’s on display at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

I know it’s *not quite* the same as the Airfix kit but painting it up at this aircraft that’s still in original paint is more fun than any of the kit markings.

Thats a very good job Sam ,as this is a very complicated airframe being such a patch work plane . I need to hop the ditch and get over and see this one . Looking forward to seeing it all weathered up .Cheers Wayne

Lovely work Sam

It's a great testament to what Airfix have achieved with this kit.

It's weird seeing this machine all in one piece and under good lighting... The real one usually skulks in poor light or multiple parts. Love the way you've depicted the 'yellow/tan-blue' colour sprayed over the RLM 76.. Looks very prototypical. Look forward to seeing it completed.

HI all

Seriously, this has been a kind of hopeless build log, ive captured virtually none of it in photos, but a ton of it on video, hence YT.

Here are the final pics (save for when I install the pilots' canopy armour. These parts I lost <threw away> and replacements are on their way from Airfix)

The Airfix kit is a GEM! Despite me deviating from the kit instructions on how to build some of it, it still went together flawlessly. Theres a few things that require changing to totally match the AWM 109, but fixing those would be a fair bit of mission creep, so Ive left it as a paint job change only.

Painted with MRP lacquers, most of the markings are custom masks, with the stencils used from the kit decals, which are outstanding. Airfix canopy masks were used which performed flawlessly. Weathering with oils, acrylics, post shading and Gunze Mr Weathering Solution.
