Grissom Posted December 19, 2025 Posted December 19, 2025 Hi Sam, You won't recognise me from my LSP 'name' but I first met you at one of IPMS Australia's club meetings - yes, I'm a member. Always loved your work and your attitude to modelling. It's so nice to see you extending yourself beyond AFV's and producing some stunning models. Keep up the awesome work! Cheers, Wayne. Sam_D Posted December 29, 2025 Author Posted December 29, 2025 Hi all Apologies for the lack of posts. Ive been beavering away on the 109, have just uploaded the second video in the series Sam LSP_Kevin, TankBuster, Furie and 8 others 11
Pete Roberts Posted December 30, 2025 Posted December 30, 2025 Nice progress Sam! Watching with interest, picking up lots along the way. Thank you Sam_D 1
GMK Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 Solid progress in that video, Sam. All looks like it’s proceeding very smoothly. Sam_D 1
Biggles87 Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 Your video build has really tempted me to make an exception to my self imposed ‘ not 1/24 ‘ rule especially as the ´109 was a relatively small aircraft. It looks like a well engineered and well fitting ( you might have mentioned that ) kit, and pretty quick build. Looking forward to more. John. 🇺🇦 Sam_D 1
Sam_D Posted January 12 Author Posted January 12 Apologies, I’ve been hopeless with image updates here. just uploaded episode 3 of the build to my YT channel. Can reveal that I’m depicting the Bf109G-6 that’s on display at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. I know it’s *not quite* the same as the Airfix kit but painting it up at this aircraft that’s still in original paint is more fun than any of the kit markings. sam Mekon, Wayne Bull, denders and 11 others 13 1
Wayne Bull Posted January 13 Posted January 13 Thats a very good job Sam ,as this is a very complicated airframe being such a patch work plane . I need to hop the ditch and get over and see this one . Looking forward to seeing it all weathered up .Cheers Wayne Sam_D 1
mattlow Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Lovely work Sam It's a great testament to what Airfix have achieved with this kit. It's weird seeing this machine all in one piece and under good lighting... The real one usually skulks in poor light or multiple parts. Love the way you've depicted the 'yellow/tan-blue' colour sprayed over the RLM 76.. Looks very prototypical. Look forward to seeing it completed. Matt KiwiZac and Sam_D 2
Sam_D Posted January 19 Author Posted January 19 Hi all Weathering is underway. Apologies again for zero updates! Next (final) video will be up on 26/1/2026. Here's some quick progress pics: Sam denders, GMK, Out2gtcha and 21 others 24
LSP_Kevin Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Beautiful work, Sam. You'll have to build a 1/24 AWM to house it in! Kev KiwiZac and Sam_D 2
Biggles87 Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Fantastic, Looking forward to he next video. John. 🇺🇦 Sam_D 1
AngryJazz_Models Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Fantastic work! Cant wait for the next video. Really curious about your weathering techniques. The way it look built up is perfect to my eyes 😊
Sam_D Posted January 24 Author Posted January 24 HI all Seriously, this has been a kind of hopeless build log, ive captured virtually none of it in photos, but a ton of it on video, hence YT. Here are the final pics (save for when I install the pilots' canopy armour. These parts I lost <threw away> and replacements are on their way from Airfix) The Airfix kit is a GEM! Despite me deviating from the kit instructions on how to build some of it, it still went together flawlessly. Theres a few things that require changing to totally match the AWM 109, but fixing those would be a fair bit of mission creep, so Ive left it as a paint job change only. Painted with MRP lacquers, most of the markings are custom masks, with the stencils used from the kit decals, which are outstanding. Airfix canopy masks were used which performed flawlessly. Weathering with oils, acrylics, post shading and Gunze Mr Weathering Solution. Here's the link to the final instalment which goes live on 26th Jan: Johnny Cloud, LSP_Kevin, geedubelyer and 17 others 20
