Not doubting Roy Sutherland at all, but I would be interested to know his evidence for this, especially given that the quilted seat definitely existed on the Typhoon and probably Tempest. Perhaps the engine was smoother so less vibration?

I think Roy may have been alluding to the cushion rather than the back. You can leave the cushion out.

Another day, another update. I managed to get the upper forward fuselage part installed, which completes the fuselage assembly, other than the cowl ring:

 

 

This turned out to be a little more tricky than I anticipated, and I ended up having to glue it in sections, as the further forward I went, the more the parts tended to splay and drift. In the end, it turned out pretty well, though not as tight as I'd hoped. The only real gap I ended up with should be pretty straightforward to deal with:

 

 

You can also see the area Will referred to earlier, which has been moulded without any rivets, to be instated by the modeller should they so desire. I haven't decided yet.

 

From here, I could move on to the main wheel bays, and all the myriad detail parts supplied for them. The work I'd already done in this area turned out to be back-asswards - at least according to the instructions. I glued some of the structural elements to the inside of the lower wing, as I especially wanted the bulkhead that sits between the two wheel openings to be located accurately in the lower wing. So I built the other elements around it, but the instructions have you install them into the upper wing. I don't think it matters much either way, but some of the fiddly detail parts would be easier to add prior to gluing them in at all.

 

 

In particular, if you decide to add the wiring that connects up all that fancy detail, for which the instructions provide a handy diagram, then your task will be much easier if you haven't already glued the centre section in place:

 

 

Yikes! I'll attempt to add at least some of the pipe work shown here, but will have to see how feasible it is with the part already in situ.

 

Now comes my major screw-up of the day. I found the instructions for adding the main gear leg attachment points a tad confusing, and ended up installing them in the reverse orientation:

 

 

I knew something was off, but couldn't figure it out. By the time I did, I had to resort to sawing the parts out, cleaning them up, and reinstalling them in the correct orientation:

 

 

This of course wasn't the best approach to ensure accurate fit and positioning, so I'm sure this will come back to haunt me! Personally I think this area of kit, while superbly detailed, is a little over-engineered, and not as sure-footed as other areas.

The stuff I use is from Gaianotes, and is actually supposed to be a UV-curing adhesive. I bought it from Japan many years ago, at great expense, when I first heard of it. There are many cheaper and more accessible alternatives these days. Since it's a gel, you can create small shapes with it that will hold long enough for you to cure them in place with a UV torch - great for landing lights, etc.

There will be soon enough, but I'm just distracted by some airliner builds, and stalling on doing all that wiring in the wheel bays - much harder now that they're already assembled!
