And with the last of the stencils on the upper surfaces, decalling of the DBMK Sea Fury is now complete. I can only reiterate my comment from yesterday about how fantastic these decals are. And every single stencil is fully readable. In truth, this aircraft probably had almost no stencils at all, and photos certainly don't reveal any. But I wanted to add some additional visual detail to the finish, and help break up any sense of monotony - especially since I don't plan to do any weathering at all. I do find myself faced with a conundrum at this point, however: clear coat or not? On the one hand, the finish and sheen are exactly where I want them to be right now, but on the other hand, the decals really need sealing and protecting. Your conundrum is a tough one, since a clear coat (even X-22) will knock down the shine a bit, while decals that might silver over time usually need a clear coat to prevent that. If it was me, I think I'd just leave it alone, because of the silver base color that won't likely show decal flaws and you can always seal them in later if they do. I'm already 100 pages in without even getting to the build yet... As for the clear coat, with the model destined for the competition tables this coming weekend (provided I actually get it finished in time), I feel the decals (especially the tiny stencils) may need some protection from handling.
