JayW Posted April 29 Posted April 29 Wheel bay dividers - don't you just love them? The one on the Mustang is one very busy place; so is yours. Well done sir. LSP_Kevin 1
LSP_Kevin Posted May 3 Author Posted May 3 Thanks again for all the comments and kind words, fellas. I'm nearing the end of work with the wheel bays here, and you can see from these photos the trouble I made for myself by building the bay walls onto the wrong wing section. This has left some elements floating in space, orphaned from their attachment points on the bay roof or sidewalls. Even despite my doing this the wrongest and difficultest way possible, I feel this area of the kit is a bit overly complicated, and the most prone to causing errors. A few more parts to install, and then I can think about getting some paint in there. Roy Sutherland tells me that they should be Hawker Primer Yellow, but can't advise on the exact colour, so will have to chase it up. Kev spyrosjzmichos, KiwiZac, Fanes and 15 others 18
Greif8 Posted May 3 Posted May 3 That does look like a complicated set of parts squencing Kev. Though it does make it look busy and realistic. Looking forward to seeing the part under paint. Ernest LSP_Kevin and RCPlym 2
dennismcc Posted May 3 Posted May 3 This might help with Hawker Yellow Kev. https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234969447-sea-fury-legs-bays/ https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/60961-sea-fury-questions/ Cheers Dennis LSP_Kevin 1

scimitarf1 Posted May 4 Posted May 4 (edited) We debated this at length and could not arrive at a definitive colour. Humbrol 74 is apparently close. We tried to find unrestored bits of Sea Fury and Sea Hawk that were conclusive unsuccessfully. We think the Hawker colour may have changed over time, becoming more or less zinc chromate like, as it was not really there for the colour but protection. The colour on the partially restored Sea Fury at Duxford is what everyone thinks of as Hawker Buff may not be totally accurate either. Edited May 4 by scimitarf1 KiwiZac and LSP_Kevin 1 1

Having read through all the advice and threads that have been offered, and not having access to Humbrol 74, I decided to take a stab at mixing my own colour (something I normally hate and avoid doing). I tried a couple of different colour combinations based on comments that I've read, but settled on a mix of Tamiya Deck Tan and Flat Yellow, aiming for something of a de-saturated mustard colour. Here's the result: In person, the colour is less bright and strident than in the photos, but still resembles YZC too closely for my liking. Still, I'm not unhappy with it, and now need to figure out what, if any, detail colours need to be applied. Kev TankBuster, Landrotten Highlander, Kagemusha and 7 others 10
