Archimedes Posted November 9 Posted November 9 It is that time of year again… Telford never fails to impress. Observations: It seemed less crowded than last year, the demographic appeared a bit younger and there were actual live walking, talking women modellers there too. Whodthunkit. there were minimal new 1/32 releases but given the sheer volume of new 1/32 releases going on at present, it’s just not credible for anyone to ask ‘Is large scale modelling on the wane?’ Because the answer is ‘no’ it emphatically is not. It is healthy and growing. Here are a bunch of photos of zee beeg LSPs I espied today starting with a rather natty 1/32 Patrouille Suisse F5. Considering the Hobby Boss B-24 kit gets such a pasting on the forums, this one is a clear demonstration of what can be done with it Whilst not a fan of overpowered garden leaf blowers I know there are those of our group who can’t get enough of ‘em. There were a lot of Phantoms on display… Of course our group as represented by @Royboy and other stalwarts were there doing a fabulous job! Lovely Lancaster cockpit detail; Despite being on the Tornado SIG stand, this Westland really stood out: This HpH C-47 stood out for me and i was advised by the builder that it is a far better kit than may be imagined. More to follow…. Paul in Napier, scvrobeson, europapete and 29 others 18 14
Archimedes Posted November 9 Author Posted November 9 Some more pictures for you… there were some HUGE LSPs including some flying ones: this Sopwith Pup is 1/4 scale… And I wasn’t sure of the the scale of this Corsair but you can see how big it was with 1:1 humans in the shot for reference: Seeing a Taube is always a joy but when one is this big…! Back to the 1/32 stuff with a couple fo nice Hunters (I’ve decided I always like Patrouille Suisse aircraft)… A nicely done Felixstowe More to come… Martinnfb, LSP_Kevin, Landrotten Highlander and 18 others 13 8
Archimedes Posted November 9 Author Posted November 9 More LSPs starting with the incomparable Peter Castle’s 1/18 Spitfire A beautiful Hawker Fury… And a gaggle of Sea Furies… Is that a Hillman Airways DH89? And rounding off today’s pictures with @tomprobert’s fantastic and vast Short Stirling. Tom claims his paint technique us not very good…evidence would suggest to the contrary! Kind regards, Paul JayW, Troy Molitor, Shoggz and 30 others 20 13
LSP_Kevin Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Thanks for posting those photos, Paul! Some really incredible models there. (And thanks for the small peek at my own little corner presence at Telford.) Kev Archimedes, Landrotten Highlander, Martinnfb and 1 other 4
Martinnfb Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Amazing as every year, thank you so much for sharing those Paul. Tom's Stirling looks like a million dollars. 😍 Archimedes 1
geedubelyer Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Great photos Paul. You've captured most of the ones that caught my eye including that Wessex on the Tornado SIG. Thanks for sharing these. Hopefully see you on Sunday morning? Cheers, Guy Martinnfb and Archimedes 2
rafju Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Wow, great pictures! Thank You! All these models are each more beautiful than the other. High level! Martinnfb and Archimedes 2
Shoggz Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Great photos Paul. Peter had his Sptfire and Fury on the IPMS Farnborough stand, as that is his local club. Apparently they were getting a little fed up with passing folk asking: “What type of paint is used on that Spitfire” and having to tell them: “it’s not paint, it’s actual metal!” geedubelyer, KiwiZac, Archimedes and 1 other 4
mozart Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Great pics, the Felixstowe I believe is by Leo Stevenson from the Tangmere club. geedubelyer, scvrobeson and Archimedes 3
RBrown Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Great photos, thank for posting! Some really awesome models there and that Stirling is absolutely magnificent! Archimedes 1
Archimedes Posted November 9 Author Posted November 9 Hello again folks, Some more pictures for you… The following group are from the competition tables. @Christa and I happened to be walking in with Philip le Brocq (Author of ‘No Time’ - what a treat you have if you choose to buy it!) and he said to me just before we went in “Are you sure you want to go in here?” I looked back confused until he said “…because you are about to find out how bed you are at building models.” How right he was…So here are my pics from the competition starting with this 1/32 Bf 110 diorama: A 1/32 A6M2 zero from the Kido Butai… A 1/32 Bf-108 The finish on this Corsair was stellar and deservedly a Silver. And then Chris and I saw this…The Border 1/32 Lancaster done as P-OS: If there were just one model I could have taken home from this exhibition, it would have been this one. The polishing of all the transparencies alone must have taken a loooong time. I’m sure @mozart would have also liked this Typhoon in 1/24…an iron fist in a mailed gauntlet… Two luvverly DH9s…. This Irish Air Corps machine deservedly got a Gold (I think the oil leak the pilot is looking at was the only thing that let it down…) Airfix’s Hellcat built the way it was meant to be: No intro necessary for the next two: Remember when John Alcorn spent years scratching building a Ninak and wrote a book about it? Now we mortals can build one OOB so yes, this is the golden age of LSPs… Suffice it to say there were a LOT of WnW kits on the competition tables This Salmon was particularly good…even the grass looked great. This W.29 was a deserved winner: Accompanied by a W.12 It was all a bit mind-blowing really. What an absolute treat to see all of this. Kind regards, Paul Christa, Rainer Hoffmann, Martinnfb and 17 others 12 8
LSP_Kevin Posted November 9 Posted November 9 Thanks for posting those photos and your thoughts, Paul. Looks like it was an amazing show! Kev Martinnfb 1
Archimedes Posted November 9 Author Posted November 9 But it wasn’t all just beer, skittles and LSPs…so with the permission of the Modelling Gods ( @LSP_Kevin) I’ll post models from the other categories too: First, planes that were not LSPs but nonetheless excellent models; Flippin ‘eck this Catalina was lovely… Anytime baby… A baby Baby in 1/72… 1/72 BE2c: Outside of the competition now, one of Bristol’s innovative ‘tween the wars innovations: …and Filton’s finest hour Enjoy! Kind regards, Paul Landrotten Highlander, Christa, denders and 19 others 15 7
