1/32 scale Meteor U.16 conversion in the works for the soon to be released Revell Meteor F.8 /9

The most interesting meteors made. This brings back some memories. I worked on WK800 converting it to it U16 spec at Marshalls back in the 80's. The scanner housings on the wings were in front of the ailerons, a fair bit of discussion about how much effect they were going to have went one before the first flight. Super thirsty even with the slipper tank.  Probably acquire one of these if the Revell kit is amazing.

Hi Alan

do you have any specific information on the type especially WK800? If so it would be good to hear from you. Pictures would also be helpful, especially any close ups, but any help would be good. Can never have enough cross check references.

Hi again.

Sorry to say but I don't have any pictures of WK800 during its time at Marshalls. It was sensitive ( read-secret ) work at the time and T.O.S.A. applied to much of the work carried out there. I have a real photograph ( I am unable to find just now ) of its sister a/c under development which was configured to the same spec although engineless. It was mounted inverted on a 50ft pole and attached to a tank chassis for system trials at Shoeburyness I believe. It retained its white/blue/grey service scheme.

Later at Marshalls the all seeing radar being tested by WK800 was upgraded and installed in C130 Hercules XV206. It was involved in a tragic accident while operational testing was being carried out in the Falklands.

Hi Alan

your reply is exactly as I expected, as it was one of a kind and due to the secret nature of the project I very much doubt that there will be much detailed information, and really good close up pictures. However if you find anything it would be great to see.

Hi Ali,

Very interested in modelling the D.16 WH320 N from 1977 but is this possible using the HKM F.4 and Fisher F.8 conversion as a basis for your conversion?

The intakes I'll work out, so I'm really referring to the fit of the longer nose (and wing tip pods?)

Hi Tony

after doing a few very basic checks I think it would be very tricky to do what you are asking, the set I have is designed to fit the Revell kit and it is as perfect as I think I can achieve taking a few basic dimensions from the HK kit the sizing of the two kits in relative areas is quite different, as a guide the wing tip on the HK kit is about 6 plus mm thick Revell and my part around 5, so to adapt that is not going to be easy. Also I think the nose on the HK kit and on the gun bulkhead line is larger than Revell.

so best build the HK kit and Paul’s conversion as is and use Revell for my set.
