From the images it does look like they've fixed the leading inner edge of the wing issue.

  • Dear HKM, would you be so kind and please, pretty please, pretty please with the cherry on the top fix the dull leading edge. I am asking too much? No? Thank you.  :)

  • Not a all Martin, not at all....

Then again, having a closer look, it seems that they haven't, have to wait and see.

This is pretty cool

I know the HKM Mossies don’t stack up well because of that leading edge issue when compared to the - albeit different variant - Tamiya version, but I still think they are decent enough

now I need to research the operational use of the high ball version

thanks for the heads up

Seems like they didn't, yet, but the front section with radar will hide the shortcomings of the chubby glass nose. Leading edge can be modified, I am actually pretty excited about this release. We are living in great times.

Well I would prefer an accurate wing but we are talking here of a 'terrible' issue that is actually asking for half an hour of work to be fixed...

Though I've a lot of talk about the wing contour but [A] haven't seen just what the problem is  and [B] what the corrective action is? If I can fix the wing then I'd be all for this as I really dig the NF.30 AND I don't have to deal with those terrible windows of the bomber version. It would be either this or continue to wait for someone anyone to do a conversion for the Tamiya Mossie.

I should dig to get my kit to take pictures but this is actually quite easy to do. I simply made some thin cuts with a razor saw in the bottom of the upper wing radiator area. This allowed me to change quickly the curvature of the leading edge to correct it. When I got the correct profile I filled the remaining (very thin) cuts with CA glue to stabilize the shape change and sanded everything to get back a smooth surface. Finally you just have to fill a remaining gap in the fuselage as the wing cross section leading edge has been corrected.

Seems to me HKM dropped the ball on this one ... For all the snazzy design and mould technology giving them great fit, finish and detail right up there with the competition, their 1st Mossie kits were a fizzier because of the stuffed up front end and the wing leading edge leaving everyone hoping Tamiya does a Mk.IV-B to compliment their Mk.VI-FB

Time goes by and we get, quite possibly, the best LSP kit in in 2023 ... In the A-20G ... and subsequent boxings. Everyone is wondering what they'll pull off next ...

If they had of fixed the wings ... made a redesigned front end for the Mk.IV ... and THEN released these kits (with revamped corrected sprues for separate sale also), maybe?

I honestly thought they'd have moved on from the Mosquito mess - or at least tried to fix some of the glaring issues before releasing another boxing ... How many here were looking for an earlier Boston / Havoc?? ... I'm sure that kit is doing well enough in sales! And it's a gorgeous kit!! ... Move onto something else maybe? A Bf.110G ... an Me.410 ... a Beaufighter (any new tooled variant as long as it's detailed and accurate) a Do.17z ... a Wellington ...

I understand that moulds make money and you have to generate every possible use out of them ... but so does reputation ... Look at Kotare (ok, they had WNW reps before starting up the new show) you just KNEW that Spitfire was going to be everything you wanted in an accurate, detailed well engineered model before we even saw plastic ... and I approached the original A-20G with caution because of what HKM had delivered before and was VERY pleasantly surprised ... For HKM to sell a fair few more LSP's than they do I'd suggest garnering a reputation similar to that of Kotare moving forward ... where it doesn't matter what is announced, you just know it will be the very best quality in terms of everything from accuracy to detail to engineering ... FIX the damn shape issues in the kit that I filed away (not building anything not resembling the real deal) and then maybe I'll pull the trigger? ... and Bombs on a NF designation?? Really?? ... Research?? night time Intruder roles maybe?? ... Interdiction?? ... Would have thought the last thing you'd want in a fighter was bombs??

Highball ... here's probably a great "what if" topic ... I'm not even sure the mine fit out made it to testing stage? ... conceived and partially developed alongside Upkeep to assault German U-Boat pens with a low level under-the-radar front on approach ... dropped in favour of one of Barnes-Wallis' other creations - the subterranean "earthquake bomb" ... the first of which was Tallboy ... and followed by Grandslam.

Might have bought both or either if the shape issues had been rectified - a dealbreaker for me.

Rog :)
